Heartland
According to Lewis Edwards 1962 edition Beam Derwent Mouth to Horninglow Wharf 13ft 6in Beam Horniglow to Croxton Aqueduct 7ft Croxton to Preston Brook 9ft, Croxton Aqueduct only passes boats of 7ft beam Whilst it has been mentioned that flats might have travelled east from Preston Brook, such a statement must be questioned. It was to the Duke & Bridgewaters interest to terminate flat (or flatt's) at Preston Brook as a terminus point on the Trent & Mersey would have benefited the T & M with regards to wharf and warehouse charges. But Croxton is on its third aqueduct at the moment, they weren't all 7 foot
Heartland
Yes, I agree Croxton is the third at this spot and the second belonged to the period of widening from Anderton to Middlewich. The first would date from Henshall's time.
