Salter's Lode / Denver Sluice

Hi

Can anybody advise please what we need to do to get through Salter's Lode and Denver Sluice? We are currently moored up in March, in the middle of the middle level and want to get onto the Great Ouse. I know it's tidal so do we just contact the lock keeper and wait for a time or can we anticipate what times we might be able to get through ?? Appreciate any advice from folk who have recently done this hints and tips always welcome.

thanks

Regards

Phone Paul, the lock-keeper on 01366 382292 and he'll tell you all you need to know. He's very helpful and friendly. You can turn up whenever you like and wait at the Salter's Lode mooring, but you can't get through the lock until the correct tide time. It make a difference if you're longer than 60 ft, long boats need to go through on the level, whilst short boats can rise/fall in the lock.

Tides at Salters/Denver are about an hour later than at King's Lynn ( http://www.portauthoritykingslynn.fsnet.co.uk/page4.html )

When we came through a couple of months ago they were trying to send people through fairly close to high tide to help dodging the silt banks, particularly outside Denver. If your boat is over 60' then this may mean a bit of a wait as the (nearly) level water you need to get out of Salter's usually arrives closer to low tide!

You can wave at us as well :) We're on the left hand side just after the railway bridge and will probably be sanding down the last stretch of cabin!
