Lancaster Moorings: Not As Many As There Were

Featured Posts

Boaters visiting Lancaster are usually advised that if the towpath visitor moorings near the Water Witch pub in the city centre are full it is also possible to moor in the two side basins opposite.

Recently, however, the mooring rings here have been removed and CRT "No Mooring" signs have appeared. The visitor moorings get very busy, especially at weekends, and these basins provided a useful overflow. Needless to say no replacement spaces have been provided.

There are flats alongside the basins that have recently been given a makeover (may be student accommodation for the Univetsity) and I wonder if this is a case of CRT continuing where BW left off in putting outside interests above boaters'.

I arrived in Lancaster to find those moorings full so carried on to try mooring on the towpath further on but could find nowhere to get close to the bank. I eventually turned and went back to moor on the trip boat moorings - but they hadn't started their season so that was OK. Certainly a difficult place to moor at weekends.

Moorings belong to uni,but due to misuse by long term moorers leaving a mess and one in paticular p..ssing in doorways of the student accomidation.the uni asked cart to remove mooring rings and put up no mooring signs.so as been said there are a shortage of moorings made worse by those who caused this moving across canal and mooring on what few moorings there were.came through yesterday and no moorings free so had to keep going.

Absolutely correct, and one of the offenders still regularly runs his very noisy engine until after 10pm. 7 days is too long for Lancaster but without enforcement this is academic anyway. Please let the trust (North West) know your concerns as it's the only way we'll get anything done about it.
