David Schweizer
I recently had to have the Alternator on my boat Engine re-built. Having winced at the £70 price tag for a Service replacement from the original suppliers, I hunted around and found a specialist company who completely re-built my unit in less than two hours, replacing the Diode Plate, Rectifier unit and the Stator for £29.50. They even soldered on a new Field wire for no extra cost. They were also able to supply an additiomnal re-conditioned unit off the shelf for the same price. I thought that members might be interested in making a note of the company - Vehicle Electrics of Ackocks Green in Birmingham. They are right next to Bridge No 87 on the Grand Union Canal, but there is no road acess at this point, the nearest Canal acess is via bridge No 86a (five minutes walk) Edited June 19, 2006 by David Schweizer
Noah
Seems like you got a good deal, David. Last year Wigan Alternators (five min walk from L&L at Wigan Pier) "exhanged" my Lucas 55 Amp alternator for the 70 Amp version (reconditioned) for £40 and let me keep the original 55 Amp one for a spare!
