Sarah and Ian
Hello All We were hoping to have a run up the Erewash Canal this weekend. A friends found this on waterscape. Does this mean the locks\navigations closed??? Waterway: Erewash Canal » From 28/05/2012 to 10/06/2012 Erewash Borough Council will be undertaking works to improve the access from Nottingham Road. This will involve the removal of dilapidated handrails and steps; it will require the use of mechanised plant. In order to deliver these works safely, it is necessary to temporarily prevent public access to the site. Diversion instructions will be present on site. Please follow the diversion information provided to avoid the site works. We apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused. Thanks in advance A concerned Ian from Ian and Sarah
Flyboy
Suggest you phone the East Midlands waterways office on 01827252000 ( John Pritchett)for clarification. Ian
Guest
Hi Ian - it is listed on the Waterscape site as a 'stoppage' rather than a 'restriction' or 'advice', so it does rather look as none shall pass.

Sarah and Ian
Still there is always the Soar.... Yes we might tootle up to Barrow instead.
benfordboy
Yes we might tootle up to Barrow instead. Would be the better cruise in my book (But I am biased !) Or if out over the extended BHOL from Notts , a lovely cruise down to Newark , Torksey , Even Lincoln ! Or T&M up to Fradley All easily possible if you enjoy longer days cruising (We do !!) Hmm - Maybe the word 'Tootle' means you prefer the more (Moor!) relaxed option ! Edited May 30, 2012 by benfordboy
PeterScott
Called the Office canals closed. THE CANAL IS OPEN I also rang the office this morning and spoke with the engineer in charge Jon Pritchett - it's just the TOWPATH closure, and it's BW being their normal lovable selves in getting a not-very-clear email put on to Waterscape by someone who ticks a 'stoppage' box when they oughtn't. They say they will issue an update this morning. The problem with ringing BW is that they just read Waterscape back to you without adding any information or value _sigh_ Hope not too late for the birthday cruise :-)

Good stuff - anyway if you do get stuck there isn't that where there is a pub right next to the lock.. I seem to recall from our trip last year... oh hang on yes there must be - Gallows Inn Lock... Sarah and Ian
An area with a gruesome past http://www.ilkcam.com/2002/020414/Gallows%20Inn.html Being a Stapleford boy and my Dad coming from Ilson I know the area quite well. It was nice chugging along last year.
