londonron
my fuel injector pump needs a service/overhaul. I know its only 3 bolts holding it on but what should i do in regard to setting the engine position? i dont want to think i know what to do and find out i did more damage. also quotes have ranged from 600 for a recon unit to 66plus vat to have a look and a futher 400 if it needs a complete overhaul. anyone know someone i can post this too who is good and charges a fair price. i think it may just need recalibrating so i want someone trustworthy as it may just be some govenor adjustment
Springer Skipper
It has a splined driveshaft that has a wide bit on it so it can only fit one way. Robin
Springer Skipper
Oh and put a witness mark on the pump to block point the dont turnthe engine. You could turn the engine first so to line up the timing mark and pointer on the crank pulley. Not a frightening job ,just be methodical and CLEAN around the injector unions before you take them off. Robin

The 1.5 should have a pointer on elongated holes mounted on an upper corner of the triangular pump mounting block and a line scribed on the matching injector pump lug. The line should be scribed by whoever sets the pump up. Aligning these two marks plus the master spline is all that needs doing providing the timing gear and skew gears have not worn too much. If they have then a special gauge is needed to reset the pointer.
londonron
thanks tony. The "specialist" who came to visit the boat clearly didnt know as much as he claimed too. i made some marks in addition to what was there already as the engine has been painted a few times over the years. lets hope the pump goes back in and all lines up. Oakie
Should not need a witness mark. If they have then a special gauge is needed to reset the pointer. My injector pump had a line on the pump flange, but it was way off the marker fixed to the engine. It was covered in paint so was not visible initially. It was a good job I did make a cetre punch mark before I removed the pump, otherwise there would have been problems.
