Mooring Reccomendation Please ? Thames Near Reading

We are currently behind on our trip because of my eye problems, and are trying to press on a lot today to make up lost time.

But not obsessed with it to the point of not finding a reasonable overnight mooring.

We are travelling towards London, and obvious choices seem to be Mapledurham, (too soon!) or Sonning, (really rather too far!).

I know not everybody rates mooring in Reading.

So any recommendations somewhere between Mapledurham & Sonning, please ?

Anywhere to specifically avoid ?

Thanks

Hi Allan,

Why not moor up outside Tesco's? You'd be fine there and you could get some shopping in if you need to.

Alternatively, you could moor next to where the Salters boats tie up (by Caversham bridge) if you want to be reasonably near pubs/restaurants.

Or there's the park, on the left before Reading bridge, this used to be a place to avoid, years back, but I've not heard of any trouble there for a very long time.

Have a nice cruise,

Keith

Thanks,

In the end we have pulled over just above Mapledurham, because it looked so damned appealing, and the field looked ideal for the dog to burn off energy in.

As we have covered 31 miles from above Sandford, I guess we have not done that bad, really!
