batteries in the cold weather

Hiya

our batteries seem to be loosing charge a lot quicker - is this because of the recent freezing cold weather do you think ?? We seem to be having to charge them longer to get back up. We are liveaboards currently "stuck" in Wheaton Aston on the Shroppie.

thanks for your input

This was covered in another (very) recent thread. Maybe last week or the week before.

Battery self drain is less in winter, not more.

If you can get the search engine to do what it's supposed to do (I never can because it's crap) you should be able to find the thread.

Whilst self drain is less in the cold, actual performance is reduced & they SEEM to be loosing charge when they are in effect not. What is happening is that the chemical reaction can not happen quick enough so you can take less out & recharging takes longer. When it warms up it will return to normal.

That only applies at high discharge rates. At low discharge rates, say over a day or so, the temperature won't make any difference.
