Catastrophic Lock Failure

Featured Posts

In this vid (Thanks to YBW) a passenger vessel is going up in a 100 x 1200 foot lock when one of the downstream gates falls off.

Hope it never happens on the Soar

There seems to have been an awful lot of water running through the lock before they shut the bottom gates, maybe they slammed shut a bit too hard!

Am I alone in finding this news clip comical:-

Worrying about a lock which is 'more than 40 years old'! and gates weighing as much as 'four Abrams tanks'

It happened on the Rochdale, in 2003, with two boats in the lock at the time.

Not out of morbid but rather genuine curiosity what was the outcome for the boats and crew?

Managed to break Odd Lock on the South Strafford canal last year, the lady on the boat in fornt didn't know her own stength when she tried to open the gate.

It took BW a grand total of eight workmen to attend it, one to carry out the repair and seven to "assist" !!

All I can say I glad that I wasn't in the lock coming down, it would have been a gloomy night
