Wanderer Vagabond
A cycle that I have bought with a view to carrying on a Narrow boat in the future is a Dahon folding Mountain bike (http://www.cyclemotion.co.uk/dahon/zerog.htm). It doesn't fold as small as the Brompton but give an excellent ride on the towpath having tested it on occasions riding the K & A from Bath to Bradford-on Avon. It is a pretty robust bike having also used it for off-road riding on Dartmoor. Basically the bike folds in half so I would accept that it will still cause some space problems within the confines of a narrow boat.
Mrs W
A.S.Bikes make a range of folding bikes including an electric assisted bike which I have used along the towpath when on a nb. As a disabled lady with mobility problems my electric bike has given me a whole new lease of life and allowed me to shop and to get around except along the most badly rutted towpaths. tom_c
my favourite bike for towpaths is a single speed mtb which i built 12 years ago, quick release wheels with 'slime' or similar to seal punctures as they happen, no gears to go wrong, v brakes and a suspension fork, comes apart quickly enough to drop into an engine room. rides much better than any folding bike i have tried! sociable_hermit
I tried out all the different folding bikes last year, and settled on one of these. That does look very cool for a folding bike.
