Priceless Parrots
Hi all, Im very new here so Hello to you all.. Im shortly off on my Holiday (T/S) Narrow boat for two weeks starting from Barton under Neddlewood. Nr Fradley Junction. What I would like to know is the best sites and things to do on the Black Country Ring, This is the route we have decided to try out this time, I think two weeks is enough for this trip. But any tips, information would be greatly apreciated. FYI: 2 Adults, 2 Kids both teenagers to keep amused. Great Forum by the way.. Paul

Breals
You've given yourself plenty of time, your kids would probably enjoy the buzz of Birmingham City Centre, and why not explore some of the BCN backwaters e.g. a diversion up to Anglesey Basin. Also, take time to savour the Staffs and Worcs canal's lower reaches, a short extension of the route to Kinver would be nice and there are caves and rock faces to explore by the canalside and up on Kinver Edge. Priceless Parrots
Thankyou for that, Can you tell where the best place on the ring would be to visit Birmingham town centre? Don't really mind where in the two weeks we do it, just would be nice to have a visit one day or two.. Im not sure if we can divert or if there is a canal close to the shopping centre itself.. Regards Paul Old Turn Junction is where you want to be. Either moor near the junction, where you've got the NIA on one side and the SeaLife Centre on the other, or just next to the Farmer's Bridge top lock is Cambrian Wharf which has good moorings. You've got Brindley Place and Broad Street right there, and you can also walk through the ICC and down into the main shopping area.
Richard T
Plenty of time to do the ring. Walsall art gallery is well worth visiting.- the teenagers might nejoy this as well. Its not the normal stuffy gallery - the architecture and contants are interesting. The basin is good to moor in. Just one word of warning Try and do the section through Hardern and Bloxwich in the early morning before the locals get up!! It can be a bit weedy in some places around Wasall. BW do permit mooring in the Ocker Hill Tunnel branch - only draw back is you are locked in at night unless one of the residential boaters will lend you akey. Just enjoy the backwaters.
