I'm intrigued about the Iffley and Osney lock keepers 'not letting boats through'. I thought there was a basic right of navigation. i guess maybe they are unwilling to work locks but couldn't stop you going through if you did it yourself. The river has dropped a few inches at Bourne End/Cookham overnight. Yesterday was a lovely day but the river was quiet, like a ghost town.

I can understand their reluctance, we went through on Friday evening (going upstream) and moored above Osney lock by the Waterman Pub. The flow had to be seen to be believed. There is no way that I would have attempted to take a boat downstraem in those condition, a couple of boats had been waiting there for a day or so on the very good advice of the lock keeper.

There is no such thing as a two day license, you can buy a one day, a fifteen day and a thirty one day license only.

The day you buy the license is free so if you buy it first thing in the morning you get get an extra day out of it.

Edited to add: See page 6 at:

http://www.erniesplace.com/CanalWorld/Thames_2008.pdf

see the EA informationn on short period registration charges (see http://www.teddington-lock.co.uk/page_1168700738515.html ) and you'll find it mentions 2 days, so officially there's a two day licence!

Of course its a 'free' day added on but if you dont ask for it you just get a one day licence.

Edited because URL didnt work
