Domestic gas cooker on boats??

Featured Posts

Im in the market for a new gas cooker and ive been looking at household ones as theres much more to choose from and better quality.

Do they just need a flame failure device to pass the BSS?? And thats it or is there more to it?

Also most have a mains cable and plug for the "Sparker", is this converted to 12v dc in the back of the cooker and therefore can be snipped

off and wired direct to the boats 12v supply? And is the gas supply fittings the same??

Hope you can see were im coming from, help is needed and input is most welcome!

Kristian you'll find a couple of other recent topics about gas cookers if you search for them.

Briefly your answers are:

As well as full FFD (all burners, oven, and grill) they must have the jets changed to ones suitable for LPG

The mains is not converted to 12 volts inside. Unless you have a 240v ac supply on the boat, you will have to resort to lighting the gas with a match or other similar lighter. Or else look around, some cookers have battery operated ignition, taht is even better.

The gas fitting can be the same, but depending what is on the boat already you may need an adaptor.

I read in the Grauniad the other week that gas cookers in any house considered to be in multiple occupation (including if there's a separate granny annexe) will at some point in the near future have to have FFDs. If this is true (they didn't say under what regs) then the available range of cookers with FFDs might increase....
