badgerburger
I've just heard that the lock at Sutton-on-Derwent, on the Yorkshire Derwent has failed. The upper Derwent (Sutton to Stamford bridge) is now inaccessible. No repairs expected any time soon.

The gates belong to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust I think: I bet they'll place a real top priority on getting the lock fixed I won't say any more on this here: but might start a thread elsewhere about that bunch... pearley
Just as well we went up the Derwent a few years ago. Ownership of the gates is complicated. Top gates belong to Yorkshire Water or is EA now. Bottom gates were last repaired by volunteer workforce and ownership transfered to Yorkshire Wildlife Trust as part of the settlement following the abortive court case. I guess you're right that they won't be rushing to repair them.
