I was told by some bloke on a boat once that it was possible to substitute the rather basic thermostat system fitted to 12v compressor type fridges for a microcontroller which would result in a significantly lower power consumption due to more accurate recording and controlling of temperature. Is there a retro-fit kit available? The bloke who told me about it made his own...

Sounds interesting, although im not sure why a more acurate controller would be than much diffrence, other than maybe it would allow you to run the whole fridge a little warmer on average without it peaking any warmer? Other than that you just decreasing the cycal time.
