john.k
Typically ,hydrostatic systems dont have any valves ,but have pump and hydraulic motor directly coupled ......pump output is varied or reversed ,and overpressure protection is inbuilt in the flow controll circuit .......pump output drops to zero as pressure rises...........the complicated ones have variable flow of both pump and hydraulic motor, all controlled either hydraulically or by a computer...............the leakage flow from both units runs through a cooler and filter. Not many narrowboats have computer controlled hydraulic control systems . most have a pump, motor , 3 position valve with built in relief valve, oil tank and some hoses, some have an oil cooler as well. Life is not that complicated.
Mike Adams
New hoses arrived so will have to see if they leak. My daughter once had the boat and phoned up to say the engine was going but no propulsion, turned out she had a rope fender between the prop and the uxter plate but operating the controls the PRV must just cut in without any noticeable difference from normal except the prop wasn't going around.
