Could be, the new cup is on and the rudder shaft is better aligned with the tube it sits in. This also means the tiller is now horizontal rather than being lower at the front. It is very smooth. We discovered that the front bit was too large compared to back bit. We have shortened the front bit and the load has improved.

I was feeling sorry for you when I saw that carpet, but you seem to have got a better boat out of it!

 

Was it an insurance repair, or did you have to cough up for it?

I paid for it, I never thought of going down the insurance route. It might be difficult to determine the cause, wear and tear or a big event. Strangely none of the crew can actually put there hand on the heart and say when the tiller started misbehaving!

Give them the photo of that carpet, and the bill for the work & slipping charges.  It is exactly the sort of thing that you pay for full insurance for - only third party cover is required otherwise.
