  1. A purely hypothetical question, have had my journey temporarily halted as the Thames has been on red boards all week and although I am fine moored where I am it has got me wondering what the situation is with some other moorings along the river? Presumably it is fine to stay on these moorings until river conditions become normal? Can landowners force boats to leave? What would happen if there weren't suitable moorings in the reach you were in? Eg much of the upper Thames is just field moorings. Is it ok to move to the nearest lock pontoon until the river goes back down??
  2. Well I got a convenient mooring where I can stay for 14 days I shall be staying for 12 days. Conveniently it is next to the 48 hour visitor moorings where at day 8 of my stay 5 boats where there when I arrived are still there and will probably be there when I leave ! One stated they are waiting for CRT to ask them to move ? Meanwhile lots of boats have gone passed with no where to moor (loss of revenue to immediate area). Adjacent to me is a boat non live aboard with a CRT envelope tywrapped to it that has probably avoided any winter mooring charges. The only CRT I have seen is no one . Councils are soon going to tackle this problem with Bylaws to the detriment of us all . Why would one boat run its engine in gear at 22:00 hours each night "oh because they have been at work" . So not on the breadline as both have jobs smoke and have a dog that has actually bitten a couple who where passing. What is the answer ?
  3. Where I am moored for a few days on a 14 day mooring there is a section of long term moorings with empty spaces only one with a boat name reserving it now I doubt that all these boats are out but that the reality is they have not been let. The visitor 48 hours are full each day one boat permanently there well more than 48 hours that I have been here. The 14 days moorings are nearly full . This leads to lots of boats being unable to moor (too narrow for breasting up) giving loss of trade to the local amenities. Why can CRT not free up long term moorings for visitors if not rented. Or maybe monitor situation and offer the CMers choice rent or move.
  4. Hi! So I've been living on my boat for about 6 weeks now. We usually travel round canals, but are thinking of heading up onto the Avon and Severn soon. We've been on the Severn from Stourport to Worcester, and did this in an afternoon. However, I don't really know anything about mooring on rivers. We have Pearson maps, and there were visitor moorings in Worcester marked on the Severn, but when we approached, it seemed you were supposed to pay 4 quid a night and pay and display. Obviously, we didn't stop there but carried on up the locks into Worcester and moored on the canal. What's your experiences with mooring on rivers? Does this happen a lot, that you have to pay to moor on rivers? Or are there places you can moor?
  5. Just a warning to anyone who is on, or plans to use, the Skipton visitor moorings during the school holidays. We are moored up behind the council offices and have just had our ropes untied by a group of teenagers who have been hanging around the 14 day moorings for a couple of days. There are 5 or 6 of them, a mixed group, and the ringleader is @15, with short, blond hair. They are on the look out for trouble. I have photos of them.
