Thanks Billy
Was thinking of trying this but with some PTFE tape wrapped around the head of the screw, great idea about the araldite, would it cope with the temperature of the cylinder?
Thanks for all your thoughts
I have managed to get the leak down to a dribble now thanks to Jenlyns putty(thank you) but not fixed completely,
was wondering how effective/easy it would be to silver solder or braze?
and if anyone has done this, how you do it and what would i need,
also how effective JB weld is
thanks for any replies
Monty

So in the mean time to allow me to run the engine & move i must:
turn the cold feed off the water cylinder
leave the hot feed open
leave the hot tap on open
& turn my water pump off
Thanks for your replies
I will turn the cold water feed off so i can run my engine without water spurting everywhere until i can fix the problem properly.
Jenlyn i am normally at Denham marina but have a weeks hols at the moment and am at Harefield, do you no what the stuff is called at Halfords?
thanks
Monty
Hi all,
I have just discovered a pin hole near the top of my hot water cylinder
is this repairable?
or is there a way i can isolate the cylinder to allow me to run the engine still until i can repair/replace without the water coming out of the pin hole
Its a 1.5 BMC engine with 2 hoses going from the engine into the cylinder and then 2 hoses with stop cocks going out of the cylinder to my domestic water
If i turned these stop cocks off would that work?
thanks for any replies
Monty
Sorry
I have to agree with this to Rose, some people end up on boats for various reasons, maybe people in your marina have always had electric, so rather than being smug about it would it not be better to help them out instead and share your knowledge with them?
I have a metal T piece on top of my boat fixed to the hand rail,i then use an extendable paint roller pole with my ariel attached to it ,this fits neatly over the T piece, the advantages for me is i can simply adjust the hight & angle, its also nice and light to take down when cruising
Thanks for that arpeeuk
and thanks for all the other replies
I think i will try the paint first and see how it goes
has anyone used anti-condensation paint? if so how effective is it.
thanks

Hi all, would it be ok to stick rubber backed carpet tiles on the steal walls in my engine room to try to stop the condensation?
thanks for any replies

The top part of my flue pipe that is inside the boat is pretty near to the tung &groove side, i was thinking of putting a sheet of copper behind it, would this be ok to do? or are there better solutions, i was thinking of copper mainly because i think it would blend in better with the tung & groove.
any thoughts
Has anyone re packed the grease on the on/off knobs on the flavel cookers? if so was it easy to do? and if so were did you get the grease from to do it, my grill knob has started to let by a small amount of gas when its in the off position, my boat safety is kinda due 3 months ago so any sudjestions welcome.
many thanks
Hi All
My flavel B700L needs replacing, does anyone no of a good alternative? i want it to be the same size and layout as the flavel due to space issues

The one the chap had was run from a seperate cylinder he had on the towpath with one of those small red honda gennys
i was thinking as i have a gas locker at the front of my boat with two cylinders in to use the spare one which is not connected to the internal gas set up
does that sound possible?
are they easy to fit and if so any reccommendations of who to buy one from
i could not remember the company he brought his from but he said it cost about £150
thanks
Has anyone any thoughts on these?i met a chap this summer using one he was very happy with it, he had a honda conversion kit, told me he gets about 50 hours running time on one gas bottle, saving a large amount of money and time trekking to the petrol station
thanks for any replies
Not sure who he is but, a boat named ten bob note is moored above Uxbridge lock at the moment, its a light blue colour with a picture of said note on the side
