  1. Can you either point me to where there is info on this stretch of River Thames or give me your opinion please. Plus when I buy a licence for the River Thames coming from Reading to Oxford will this cover me for the "above" section an approx how long a licence should I get? Thanks
  2. I fully appreciate what you are saying and in fact it's one of the methods I use. My question was is there any mechanical means that could be attached to a boat to assist those getting more frail or like me with a broken ankle so can't leap off.
  3. Sorry should have read "assuming they get the stern into the bank.
  4. Sorry if this is likely to get me thrown off the forum but assuming they get the bow into the bank is it possible for anyone who struggles to pull their boat in to have some form of temporary bow thrusters fitted not requiring major structural work on the boat.
  5. OK let me explain, I've had a new cover fitted recently and there are some holes left from the previous covers fixing points. Approximately 3/16 diameter and starting to go rusty. Any advise to as to what filler to use, don't really want to weld as it's a fairly new paint job and I don't have a clue about welding. Thanks for any advise.
  6. For many years I volunteered with one of the blind associations doing out door pursuits. One week end was sailing. canoeing and rowing the 7 crew "whalers" on Hawley Lake. I organised a race between two whalers and was the sighted crew on the tiller. My crew were a big strong totally blind bunch all up for it. Up to me to start the race so I'm stood up at the back - blow the hooter and my crew took off like a rocket. I somersaulted off the back and not having a clue I was gone the boat and the crew disappeared into the distance causing complete havoc to the dingy sailors and all the rest of the boats on the lake. They did eventually run aground on an island with a thump still not knowing there was no one on the tiller. To date haven't fallen in the cut or lock, just a matter of time I'm told.

  10. Just curious as to the boats keel or do you have a bilge keel? Cos some of the canals I've been on lately even I was ploughing and wondered how - if you came across a low pound you would deal with it. As for your specific route questions there are folks on here far more knowledgeable than me of that area. Good luck anyway and sounds like a great journey
  11. Looking for a Marina in or around Benson can anyone advise. Need electrical hook up Thanks

  13. Having to be rescued after I had taken my 4 year old daughter out alone with no life jackets, flares or radio. Hadn't checked the weather or the water as first time on this particular stretch. We were in an open boat so no protection from the elements and the wind got up and we were blown onto an island and I was unable to get us off or back to dry land. Fortunately the Butlins Red Coat in charge of the boating lake waded out and pulled us back in. Bugger Bogner.
  14. Does any one know where I can buy a 12v toggle switch (for the Whale Gulper) to fit through a 1/2" ply wall. There are plenty for sale that go through a dash board with a locking nut but I need one with a much longer threaded part. Thanks

  20. Now there is a business opportunity for someone, print the narrow boat version of a train spotters log book (can't remember who printed them) There is one for Eddie Stobard Trucks so why not. NB would be far more interesting and healthier than sitting in motorway car park. Might even educate the youngsters. So who is in?
  21. Thanks everyone and Bizzard I'm sure you could start a whole new thread for alternative uses of a condom
  22. Have fitted a new shower cubicle and the being to "suck" out the waste water using a Whale Gulper the adjacent cupboard. I want to put the WG switch inside the shower cubicle at high level so wont be saturated but could get spayed therefore needs to be waterproof. Haven't had much luck with Google so trying a more reliable source - you guys. Also is there such a thing as a swivel joint to go through the cubicle wall that I can attach the hose to both sides? Thanks
