  1. Undefeated champion for 4 years then. It's great to know you kept the title to soften the blow of not managing to take part this year.
  2. Yes we had some of them but don't seem to be able to get any more. The current batch are from The Historic Narrowboat Club.
  3. I once had a flu type bug that wasn't going to be fought off. I had been volunteering with Python around 4 to 5 days a week prior to that so I toddled off to the Docs and mentioned leptospirosis and she laughed at me! I was taken aback but stood my ground and told her she shouldn't dismiss the possibility. She did a quick Google (or whatever the NHS version is) and apologised to me, saying I had been correct and she didn't know enough about it to understand why I suggested it. I often tell our volunteers that if they do need to speak to a medic about potential symptoms they must stand their ground and not allow them to dismiss the possibility lightly. We have cards we hand out to those who want them too. I hope the drugs start working soon.
  4. There may be a complication.... Shortly after leaving Withymoor Island we realised we had a stowaway on board. We have no idea where he came from. We thought he might jump ship and head home (wherever home is) but he seems to like Delhi and is quite taken with the shade provided by the tomato plants on the tug deck. It just occurred to me that maybe he is related to another famous duck and has been sent on a mission to reclaim the noodles? How do I break it to him he missed his chance?
  5. There may be typically less than 40 diagnosed cases but a large number of people who might have contracted the disease will manage to shake it off. They may suffer no more than feeling a little off colour for a day as their immune system does it's work. This is why it is very important to seek medical treatment if flu type symptoms persist. I really wish he wasn't in hospital but I am very relieved he is there. I have been extremely concerned from the moment he said he had a flu type bug. I hope the antibiotics work quickly
  6. You will have to collect your own litter next year and hope the competition is run again.
  7. I have around 250 photos I took but none of Daisy! I have shared a selection of them on FB for those you are interested and wish to venture over there: https://www.facebook.com/102291267993075/posts/pfbid0VwjmgwAywkbmCJCGZpXZzbxt9Lt7Ssg6UWz18jXvFCCxJYdqz5UgKHtZJ8cqrF1yl/?sfnsn=scwspmo if you wish to use any of them you are welcome to do so. Please message me with the details of which you would like and I can email the originals (rather than a distorted FB copy) across to you
  8. Now you see, good, timely communication is always useful in making any plan.... I write this from The North Stratford Canal having passed through Shirley yesterday. But hang on, Shirley they need a scenic trip before arriving back with me?
  9. I cut out the waffle and went fast forward.. I looked closely at the cracks in the paving slabs outside The Malthouse this year to check the noodles that Little Bob sowed there had not germinated and were on their way to becoming the next invasive species Sue is lucky to find such a valuable gift inside Barney's tummy. There was just a length of orange ribbon in there when we got him. We sent him away with some meerkats though
  10. Surely someone has a photo of it to share?
  11. Well done everyone, especially those at the top of the leader board. You did well. Well it was certainly an eventful challenge for us. Everyone enjoyed it though which is what counts. We placed 16th last time we did it (in a different boat, one with a weedhatch and much less draught) so to come 9th this time is a huge improvement and was, from memory, roughly where we expected to be placed last time if I had not screwed up the scoring so badly. We had numerous low pounds where we had to run water down which held us up quite a lot, we had several significant blades full (which held us up even more) we had one smoke alarm alerting us to a smoke filled engine room which did not hold us up at all, we had one wierdo intent on ensuring we got no sleep, we had one pizza delivery who could not find us. we had 2 breakfasts end up on the galley floor (along with me) when Delhi decided there was insufficient water under the prop to power around a sharp bend. We had one broken sugar cannister resulting in broken glass and granulated sugar down the back of the stove (from the same bend). We had one hanging up in a lock - thankfully Delhi dropped off fairly quickly (caught on a protruding brick - CRT have been notified) We also picked 9 sacks of rubbish, along with a large quantity of wire, a large blue trough/tub with castors, a roadworks barrier, a sleeping bag and a duvet which were all dropped off at CRT services as we passed by apart from the wire which the folks at Withymoor Island are going to weigh in. Thanks to everyone who helped to organised it and especially to the lovely folks at Withymore Island who were so very welcoming and accommodating. We stayed an extra night to assist them in using up that rather lovely beer. What I have learned for any future challenges is to ensure that I have nothing to do whatsoever with the data input because the big difference this year compared to 3 years ago is that the score we were given bears a remarkably close resemblance to the score that was expected. For future reference: Never let someone with discaculia anywhere near to the scoring! Andy did a fantastic job of planning a route (with no experience whatsover of the BCN) and controlling the spreadsheet I had not realised until after the event that the award for collecting litter was not being run this year but hopefully some of the stuff we collected will have prevented other boaters from having problems (especially the wire and the sleeping bag) Was the best decorated boat judged at all? We won't be taking part next year as we have other plans but we hope that our team will be offered an opportunity to crew for another vessel because they really are amazing grafters and brilliant team players too
  12. We were just passing the finish line at Withymoor and it was suggested we had timed our arrival to perfection simply to blow our horns! The team all had wooden "Toot Toot" train whistles to blow as well. That's good news, I was wondering
  13. Oh no! There were various crew randomly sneezing and snuffling and mentions of hay fever. I felt like death warmed up yesterday but decided I was just exhausted, vitamin C, a takeaway curry and a good night's sleep have put me right. Seriously though, it might be prudent to seek medical advice if he has flu-like symptoms as that dip in the cut might have something to do with it. Fever, chills, muscle ache and headache are classic flu symptoms but can also be leptospirosis (which requires a blood test to check for) Don't let him be too much of a bloke to get it checked and ensure whoever he speaks to knows he has been in contact with polluted water. I sincerely hope he is on the mend soon. We didn't break him on purpose
  14. Rivets 5000 is a fabulous little boat. We were coming down The Crow are they were going up Later, in the Netherton Tunnel having lights seemingly hovering just above the water behind us was peculiar! It was really difficult to work out how far away the boat was. It was another challenge boat following them, hence two sets of lights behind.
  15. The story that was told on board was how the wierdo was frogmarched across two overbridges at cabin mops length in a "Dad's Army" style until he lost the will (or the direction) to return But... Don't tell 'em Pike
  16. You don't see another boat for hours then suddenly 4 pass you in the locks
  17. Does anyone have any boiling oil we can tip over the local ne'er-do-wells so Team Delhi can get some rest? Currently got a stand off situation....
  18. Barney is offishally handed over to Tatty Lucy
  19. Well Team Delhi's scoresheet will be spelt the way her name is spelt on the side of the boat, on the CRT database and on the 1930 gauging records (among dozens of other official documents) I will double check I didn't make a typo on our entry form (because even the best can make a mistake) but I certainly wouldn't have used two different spellings on the form. None of the other boats have a choice of two spellings offered. Why do we have an additional hoop to jump through? We got a duvet
  20. His quote was "Nipples like bullets" He went in to get the remains of the Ikea bag we had clearly not fully cleared this morning and found what appeared to be strands of unravelled foam backed carpet .... Cut tons of the stuff off, got out, started the engine to check it felt right..it did Fantastic Then suddenly, 20 seconds later...it didn't feel right... So he went back in and took a duvet off that we had collected in the 20 seconds running to test it!
  21. Who has the imposter boat with the incorrect spelling?
  22. Guess who has Barney! Oh... Our first bladeful was dealt with at 9 minutes past 9 this morning. An Ikea bag. Nobody required a dip to deal withit.
  23. If you're not on your boat then does it count? Perhaps if you can stand in your bath and salute while sound it that will do?
