  3. I hope you're not off to "I always like to smash one through the covers" LOCKED!
  4. Oh... alright then. Edited to add: In response to Carl.
  5. As you had quoted Nick and appeared to be replying to him directly, shouldn't you have used the word "anyone" instead of you if you meant this more generally?
  6. In fairness to Nick I can't recall a post where he has intimated that he would like to do such.
  7. Many a true word spoken in jest... it had been rumoured that a certain M. Gaddafi had booked a build slot with one Mr Hudson. Allegedly, agreed preliminary plans contained gun placements to bow and cabin roof in order that undesirable beings and craft could be eliminated at distance
  8. Well... if it's any relevance to getting back on topic I always feel a spark of electricity everytime I see a decent set of pins (and not mooring pins either!)
  9. I've never been so pleased to be a "leg man" in all my life!
  10. We initially considered one but as someone who wishes to have as little as possible to do with the stuff once it ceases to be part of me it somehow didn't seem the same just chucking a handful of sawdust over things instead of a good old flush, regardless of where it went after that.
  11. Have to confess to liking it myself although all it seems to represent to me is a swan and a canal bridge. But then again how do you portray everything in a logo?
  12. So, having been such an entertaining and interactive (not to mention provocative thread…. Alan?) did we ever get to the bottom of this? How about a different view… Is there not something that could be said for these so called reproduction “washer Joshers “ that will not ask a future question, stir the mind and tell a story once the present custodians of such true originals with real rivets have long since demised along with their beloved craft? Despite my horror at such a thought it is eventually going to happen, like it or not. Let’s all build boats along practical lines without these “embellishments” in which case nobody will ever ask a question and the history of such may be lost forever, if only to the laymen . Yes… that’s it let’s just bin history and concentrate on the practicalities of today! That view is ok in our (very selfish) lifetime given our historical knowledge but what will be left after the current originals have long since gone and all that is left are un-embellished, practical non-washer Josher alternatives and what will folk of the future make of these? Maybe we should take practicality to the extreme and make floating boxes that can be stacked bow to stern in order that moorings could be maximised in terms of accommodation, and how about a bulk purchase of bog grey paint so that we all know that we have done it on the cheapest basis? Oh hang on, is there something to be said for personal preference after all … ?

  14. Ah c'mon now that's a crazy suggestion, now I know you're pulling me leg. I thought it was common knowledge that all original working boats were decorated with studs to cover over badly welded joins... as if they ever did anything practical like holding the boat together
  15. Who us? Not in the slightest... merely expressing a few opposing opinions
  16. I guess the rivets are a thing of personal taste/choice... many builders offer them and similarly with SMH boats you have the choice of with or without, that's down to the client's choice, not the bulder.
  17. But maybe you're assuming people's reason/s for choosing an SMH (?), many owners that I have talked with didn't buy one because they wanted something that was built to the exact lines of an original working boat yet they were very pleased with the package and product as a whole based on the criteria which they desired, regardless of how the boat is described in the marketing. And very shiny boat type... aren't they all when they are new? http://www.flickr.com/photos/50005139@N08/6227192830/in/photostream
  18. Hmmm... they're certainly not the cheapest boats so I wonder why that might be then?

  21. Jees... I was alright with that in words until I clicked the clip (after returning from bog after a very close up view of the u-bend). Dirrrrty!
