  4. I do not know how to link old threads to this? But there is a thread by member Proper Job Thread is titled Trent Falls Posted june 3rd 2011 He was with me when I took my 70 foot Hudson through Thorne lock, I reckon literaly one inch longer and it would not have gone through so how accurate 70 foot was mattered?
  5. Its a shame they changed the system. I took my 70 footer through and sold it at Pollington and the new owner, another forum member brought it back through downhill. That was 2011, not all improvements improve anything.
  6. Yes, as do plenty of others, its a harmless joke simply highliting the difference between English speaking countries ffs
  7. I do not know your age but if you are knocking on a bit I would advise trying not to fall as you could easily break your hip.
  8. And that is how it will stay 👍
  9. Is Thorne lock still doable on a 70 foot narrowboat or have the gates been changed recently?? Anyone know?
  10. I thought Gary Peacock was Ledgard Bridge boats? If so he probably went the way of many boat fitting outfits?? Try and message him, there may well be someone along soon anyway that knows chapter and verse.

  12. I think people seem to use their name to rightly or wrongly promote stuff for sale, why anyone falls for it is beyond me. I remember a couple of newby boaters who called themselves foxes afloat?? Who did a few u tube vids then sold their distinctly average boat to someone at a daft price. I only mentioned to the missus last night that a DFS advert was pushing furniture endorsed by Amanda bloody Holden. For some bonkers reason people must fall for such endorsements or else businesses would not pay to use the name. Its London I suppose, thats what is known as a view down there!!
  13. Bloody fast on spring tides is your answer, just do not try to push it is the answer so timing is paramount. The flow even on the non tidal parts can be more than is safe to handle. I used to measure the flow most days in the winter in Nottingham, our max to take the boat out was 4 knots and it sometimes exceeded that, we did not go out over 3 knots for safety. I have taken several narrow and one widebeam up and down the tidal bit and its no problem if as I say you do your homework.
  14. Not many people that stupid?
  15. A nice one with a drill attach wire brush. Some fire bricks. A baffle plate and the flue hole in the back capped off. A glass pane fitting and a good blacking. At first glance it looks solid??
