    The foam was probably to stop condensation forming on the tank under the bed? I would agree that the safest bet would be HDPE all things considered.

    I have had mild steel and stainless steel tanks. My last boat had some sort of plastic or fibreglass looking tank that took all under bed space. Plastic makes more sense than metal to me?
