  2. Received an email today, this is is the text it contained. At the bottom is a link. Eat your heart out Phylis. This is the U.S.S. Independence (LCS-2). It is a Triple Hulled, Weapon-Laden Monster. The U.S.S Independence was built by General Dynamics. It's called a "littoral combat ship" (LCS), and the tri-maran can move its weapons around faster than any other ship in the Navy. (Ironic that with all that high tech built in, the ship reminds us of the Merrimac ironclad from Civil War days.) Littoral means close to shore, and that's where these very ships will operate. They're tailor-made for launching helicopters and armored vehicles, sweeping mines and firing all manner of torpedoes, missiles and machine guns. These ships are also relatively inexpensive. This one's a bargain at $208 million, and the Navy plans to build 55 of them. This tri-maran is the first of a new fire breathing breed, ready to scoot out of dry dock at a rumored 60 knots.. It's like a speedy and heavily armed aircraft carrier for helicopters. At 43 knots she's running at half power and is reported to be able to do around a 45 degree turn at that speed. NOTE the absence of a bow wave. Pirates Beware!!!
  3. Don't you lot know anything, it's obviously a UFO. It's got frozen in by the bad weather and can't take off again until it thaws. This should of been a caption comp.

  10. Prone to failure where the two spades meet [on the bend] Still don't understand why you can't tuck the connector to the side between the roof & ceiling. If the existing connector is too high/thick you could use one with a lower profile and if the cables are too thick to fit more than one in each connection you could use links along the opposite side, it would just be longer.
  11. Like these. [Link] Edit. Oops, too slow.

  13. Why do you need to fit them inside the light, can't you run wires from inside the fitting to the existing block?
  14. Looks more like a coach, but then I suppose that's a ferry of sorts As she is or was it just the hull that was part of the ferry? Is it in Holland? Questions, questions,

  17. I do get the feeling that some posters here just haven't read the complete thread or choose the 'I've got them, I've never been knocked in yet, so they must be safe' attitude. Our trad has no direct access to the stern from within, so you have to come out through the side door and along about 6ft of the gunnel to get there, as OH has a dodgy back I thought it would be good to have somewhere for her to sit whilst going along. I asked about having them fitted but the marina engineer pointed out the perils, so I didn't, but if he hadn't and I had fitted them, having read this thread and heard about some of the tragedies, I'd think I'd remove them. I know it's not the seats themselves that are dangerous, but having them [1] clutters an already small area, and [2] says it's OK to sit here, when we know it's not, so why have them. Sermon over.
  18. I thought it was always cold & freezing up there.
  19. Might pay to check what closures have been delayed in re-opening due to the cold weather.
  20. No one likes to be proved wrong but I hope I am when I say I can see further tragedies being reported. What is it that encourages people to walk on the frozen canal? is it some form of bravery idiotic belief in being able to walk on water when it does break, there is a perfectly good towpath, use it. If we were told that we HAD to walk on the ice we'd all be up in arms. I know many of us oldies did it as kids, but that's before we knew what fear was, and when we had proper severe winters when even the sea froze. Please, please don't do it. Whether I agree or disagree, like or dislike anyone on here I don't want to hear they've drowned. 'So people, be careful out there' Rant over.
  21. Not ashes according to the police who discounted that on Radio4 news this morning. They went to feed the ducks. The ice may have been thick enough to support individuals but not four adults standing/moving together. A real tragedy whatever they were doing.

  24. 'Smelly' & 'Lady Muck' have both given good advice, take it. I have had many promises [mostly broken] by non paying customers. People either pay or have no intention of paying. Use all the methods possible to get your money back. Small claims court, police, trading standards, debt collection [although that will cost]. Steve is never going to pay unless he is forced to. Stop being nice, hit the basta*d with everything at your disposal. £800 is a huge amount of money to lose in any circumstance, the length of time that has elapsed says to me that he has basically stolen this from you and that makes him no better than a thief. Sorry if this sounds harsh but if there is one thing I detest it's people taking money or goods with no intention of meeting their obligation. I wish you all the luck in getting it back, but don't wait for him to return it voluntarily, cos it ain't going to happen.
