  14. Hi,well i,m starting my narrowboat life two weeks ago,got a book, and filled out the first page.I started stamp collecting 40 years ago,but it only lasted a few months. Will i keep it up,don,t suppose so,but you never know. Some of us are recorders of small events, some just get on with it.Maybe i will become one of the former,is it sad?never liked that word as it,s used now, each to his own, craggy
  15. It seems everytime i go out on my boat there is a mini disaster. The latest is today as the sun came out i decided to leave the security of my new berth in the mariner, and chugged down the canal, surely nothing could go wrong today. But it can with me,i thought there was just enough width here for turning around, but no,i managed to jamb the bloody thing between a bunch of tree roots and shallow water on the otherside.Good job there was no one around.I had to abandon ship and tug and sweat, but managed to free the brute. And crept back to the mariner, only to spend 20 minuets trying to reverse back into a tight space between two other narrowboats. How do you steer them backwards?.They seem to do as they please, Craggy

  18. Hi Alan,i,m not sure if i lost all my coolant.no i do not have a temperature gauge. The engine is a beta marine 20hp,keel cooled, and the exhaust seems to run through the header tank. The engine stopped, but on replacing the water,it stared and sounded and performed ok.It does need topping up each day,is this usual? regards craggy
  19. Hi,i seem to be making lots of basic errors in my first two weeks of owning a narrowboat.Last weekend on my maiden voyage,i manage to evaporate all my engine coolant by not replace the cap properly. The engine cut out,but afterwards after replacing the water seemed ok.Now i,m further worried that my block might freeze tonight,as there is no antifreeze in yet and i can,t get to the boat. What are the chances,as i,m by now a little paranoid, supportive answers please if possible, regards craggy
