  1. I am planning on adding two smaller rads to the system, 1 in kitchen area and 1 in the office. The large 1 in the bedromm will be replaced with a slighty smaller 1. Thanks, kris Hi Blackrose. Yes the current rad does get hot as would be expected. It is Thermocycling and seems to be working fine, sometimes a bit slow but thats probably down to me not stoking the fire up too much. The run from Stove to rad is around 10 metres. Thanks, kris
  2. Evening all. I am looking for some advice/guidnace. I am planning on updating the old/tired interior and would like to do something with the hoorible looking heating. I currentoy have a Morso Squirrel with back boiler, feeding 1 radiator at the back of the boat. It may be slow to get up to temperature but definitely works and it does get rather warm in here some days. My question is.......... Do the 28mm copper pipes need to slowly slope up the full length of the boat (looks horrible) or can i tuck the feed pipe up under the gunwales and T down to the rad, the T down to the return pipe and run that as low as possible. I think i remember reading a "How To" where thats what the person did but could be mistaken as i cant find it again. I will try and add some pics later as the ones i have appear to be too big to attach. Thanks, kris
  3. Well thats a major spanner in the works. Looks like i need a new route. lol 01/09/2023 16:11 We are sorry for the continued disruption experienced by the closure of Lock 7 on the Marple flight. The detailed engineering survey carried out on the lock last week has concluded that the lock wall has moved substantially over a short period of time. The results indicate that, unfortunately, the lock cannot be operated safely, either by customers, or on the basis of managed passage, and that it would pose a substantial risk to anyone attempting to operate the lock or navigate through it. The repair will require substantial work and the lock will remain closed for an extended period of time. Whilst this is disappointing news, we are evaluating the design and method of the repair and will be doing our best to make sure it is prioritised in our works programme as soon as possible. Our engineering team and contractors will be making sure that the design is both robust and cost effective. We will keep customers fully updated throughout and share any further updates including expected start and completion dates as soon as possible. In addition to our apologies, we share the frustration that this unplanned and costly work will have on the navigation, particularly given the substantial and extensive work undertaken earlier this year to secure water resources for the Peak Forest canal. If you require any further information of have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact us atenquiries.northwest@canalrivertrust.org.uk. For the most up to date information about our navigations please follow the linkhere. 25/08/2023 15:19 Please be advised navigation remains closed along the Marple Lock Flight of the Peak Forest Canal due to the movement of the lock chamber wall at Lock 7. Our contractors have been to site to carry out the in-depth survey that will help determine what works are required. The findings within the survey are currently being analysed, we anticipate the results will be ready next week. A further update will be provided by Friday 1 September. 18/08/2023 12:25 Following our investigations yesterday at Lock 7 on the Peak Forest Canal, we have found significant subsidence of the lock side, along with movement of the lock chamber wall. Our engineers are now in the process of arranging specialist contractors to carry out an in-depth survey of the lock which will be carried out next week. Once this survey has been carried out, we will be able to provide a further update regarding what works are required. A further update will be provided by Friday 25 August.
  4. Thanks for the advice and comments. Have just watched Robbie Cummings do the 9 single handed. They do look a bit sketchy. Silly question but...... with all the water coming over the top of the gates, whats the chances of me filling my boat up lol. She's 57ft with no cratchg cover. My aim was to do the Cheshire ring - clockwise, but could just as easily go the other way around and do the 9 last (with help) Thanks, kris
  5. Can't really comment on other makes as this is my 1st ever boat but it is running a vetus 3000w inverter, solar with a few Sterling bits in the mix. Seems to be coping fine ( now it's set up correctly) with my power hungry office. The only addition I've made is a remote control panel so I can turn it on/off etc from my desk.
  6. Morning all. I start my 1st boating journey next Saturday, taking my new (to me) boat from Ormskirk over to Ashton-under- lyne. Will travelling up the Leeds and Liverpool onto the delightful Bridgewater into Manchester then onto the Ashton. Are there any nice ish, safe morring spots once i get into manchester and/or any places to avoid. I'll be single handing the old tub (if that makes any difference). Thanks, kris
  7. Ah Ok. Cheers Tony, will get it sorted later. Thanks, kris
  8. Hi. is there another way to donate, other than PayPal. I dont have an account. Thanks, kris
  9. Greetings from a fellow noobie.
  10. Thanks for the maths, advice, guidance, everyone. As I'll be continuous cruising, was trying to gauge how far I could get between filling up. I suppose it would make sense to just grab fuel/ top her up on a regular basis. I may even keep a couple of Jerry cans on board ( just in case) Thanks, kris
  11. Afternoon all. Have been trying to search for average/rough consumption of the big lump of an engine in my new (to me) boat. The only figures i can find are the ones from the owners/workshop manual, see below. Just having problems converting them from ye olde english into metric The engine is a Lister HRW3 Thanks, kris
  12. Thanks for the advice, everyone. Just got back from the boat, what a dirty messy job that was. End caps came off reasonably easy in the end. Used a small knife edge chisel and a small pin hammer. Took my time chasing the gap around. Few squirts of wd40 and they both came off with no issues or damage. That was the easy bit. The exchanger was absolutely gummed up with gunk and jizz. Spent 4 hours with lengths of 2mm wire poking all the tubes out. Washed it through a few times and bolted back together. Washed through a few more times and all clean. Need to order about 3 miles of coolant hose and 300 clips. Then job finished and test run on the weekend. Again, thanks for the help Kris
  13. Over heating issues. The boat i bought was used by an old boy (sadly passed away last year) and hasnt really had much use in the last 8 years. I've stripped and cleaned everthing else, including the skin tank. The amount of crud that came out was quite suprising. The feed pipe into th eheat exchanger was clogged with crud and other stuff.
  14. Evening all. Does anyone know how to get the end caps off the heat exchanger. I undid and removed the centre nut. Tried twisting the cap off, Tried pulling it, tapping it with rubber hammer, shouting at it, swearing at it even resorted to praying to a diety I don't believe in for some divine intervention but the little sod refused to budge. Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, kris
  15. Thanks again for all the advice. It was power saving mode that was causing the issue. Switched it off and everything is now working as it should. Again, thanks everyone. Much appreciated Kris.
