My sister is 'big boned'! She also likes,in her words not mine, 'ding' meals and Harvesters. Cream, takeaways............... That's not talking behind her back, sis knows how I feel. George changes shape around the gut depending on whether he's just eaten, been on a walk or opened his bowels (medical term). Why do nurses get the hump when you ask them if their bowels have open today in response to their own enquiry? Martyn
  2. Thank you for that. It's a rarity that we have anywhere near 3kw load on. Wife's hair drying. We run the engine as the inverter complains. Not enough battery? I am swaying towards solar power. A bit like a plant I suppose. Not sure why the previous owner fitted such a large inverter. Perhaps he ran high wattage items. Martyn.
  3. Thought Pru was steadier on her feet than Tim. They obviously love each other still, after all the years. Also thought the C&RT chap on the lock side was very obliging waiting for Pru to crawl along the boat with the rope. Also, the couple who's boat they visited were 'normal' and not at all scripted. 6. Too true. Alternator. The bigger the output, the more load on the drive belt. Is this correct. I have a 50hp Shire. What is the largest alternator I can attach. I'm also toying with the idea of 400w solar. Am I barking mad? I am trying to be serious. Martyn

  12. The C & H is definitely on our list of canals to do after we've set of late June. Our departure is getting later and later. Just had a tour of the canal on Pennine waterways site. Martyn.

  14. Two good points. We already have four on the go. We bought Nightwatch with a 3kw? Inverter and it's been said that to have a couple more will increase the supply to the inverter. Is seven a bit over the top? Is six over the top? We will be living onboard from June this year. Is it a question of more the merrier where batteries are concerned? Far too many questions for one post, Shirley. Martyn
  15. Have a good journey. Hope the weather stays in your favour. Lovely job you're doing. Bet it's satisfying. Don't think well see you but give Nightwatch a wave as you pass. Virtual wave if you like as I'm not going to be there. The photo of Charlie prepping the engine, is that your lounge. It's a bit untidy. No smilies here. Martyn
  16. Thank you for this info. His name doesn't happen to be Ritchie does it. If it is then another member has pointed me in his direction. So I will definitely be in contact with him. Martyn
  17. Arh! Yes. That's the ones. I did say I didn't know what they are called. I will see how much now. It's only to take off old and "not so flaky" blacking. Thanks to all. Martyn
  18. This lovely pair are on Alan Titchmarsh in a couple on minutes.
  19. That's the bu**er. Could I remember the darned word. Nope! Thank you. Martyn Edit to PS. Just looked on line, but the ones that come up are not the small (4" across ish) I was trying to think about. I will keep looking. I remember reading a thread about then on here about a year ago.
  20. Numpty question in response to Juniors post. If, I was to buy 3 batteries as advertised but only connect two, all I need at present, would the third one survive not connected up and stored? Martyn
  21. Hello A very quick question. Just booked the boat in for DIY blacking in June. I have searched for and can't find the thread on, those grinding type thingies that go on a power drill or angle. Grinder. You know the ones, big ugly teeth for taking the surface back to steel. Evil looking. If you know please tell me. I'm going mad here. Martyn
  22. many do achieve the lighter nose, as when we used to camp in tents the caravanners would always stick their noses in the air in our direction. Not all though. Martyn
  23. We have a fan for moving air around. To supply the air we open as many openings as possible. We have thought of air con units but have decided it's not the way to go, for us. Plenty of liquid in an cool old pub sometimes helps! Martyn
