  7. We did it in 2 weeks from Kings Bromley Marina, just west of Fradley Junction, back in may-June anticlockwise. Great trip and included a trip to Welford to change some crew members so lost half a day there. It absolutely poured down on the middle Sunday going down Foxton but cleared up by the time we reached Kilby Bridge that pm. The reason I mention that is because I contacted BW on the Monday to find out the state of the rivers down stream - the Soar was OK but the Trent was in flood and closed..... a quick calculation showed we were reaching the middle point of our trip and would have to decide whether to turn round. Took a gamble and continued to Junction lock near Cossington Mill. Following day BW said the Trent was open again so we ploughed on and made it a long day to Shardlow. This meant we were a day up and could enjoy a Marston's brewery tour - give Leslie a ring to book, well worth doing http://www.marstonsdontcompromise.co.uk/si...our_booking.asp Mike
  8. Taken from Hansard via number10.gov.uk Alun Michael (Cardiff, South and Penarth) (Lab/Co-op): My right hon. Friend will be aware that during his period as Chancellor and Prime Minister, British canals have been turned around from being a drain on our nation’s resources to being a national asset. Will he ensure that British Waterways is seen not as an asset to be sold off, but as an asset to be treasured—like our national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty—and used for public benefit as well as local regeneration? The Prime Minister: I think my right hon. Friend will agree that new investment in British Waterways has been very important to guaranteeing its future. We must consider how we can get further new investment into British Waterways for the future: that is our principal aim.
