  1. Yes it is your opinion, yes you are allowed to share it and yes we can handle criticism. There are forums which feel more chilled than this one does now. I don't like forums where after asking a questions you leave feeling smashed up. You do not believe that what you have posted is insulting so the conversation end here.
  2. Thanks Athy - we (Fuel 2001 and Myself) do not feel "doubled out' and indeed agree that this is a discussion forum where members vary in their ability to be frank and tactful (should that be tactless in this case?). But this kind of use of threads can be found all over this forum (and no doubt others) where someone posts a topic or asks a simple question and it very quickly descends into patronising and critical retorts and a sense of one-upmanship. For us it seems such a sad waste of this forum and the knowledge in it. We posted our original question to get some thoughts however petty insults being slung about may have provided some mild entertainment for some but have been hurtful and unhelpful - dare I bother to bring feelings into this? Probably not. As I have stated several times the exterior is far from finished. A blacksmith friend is coming to help get the finish right. The photos do not show the curves to the side panels, the paint has not been complete, the windows haven't been fully installed, the artwork isn't in place and nor is the headlamp and horn. All of these features will help 'calm down' its exterior. I had considered cratch board and cover but this appeared impossible due to our location - I had also considered a glazed exterior (sun room type thing) but we obviously settled on a fully enclosed bow to maximise the inside space. This will be complimented next year but rearranging the current galley, saloon to allow us to increase the size of our daughters cabin.
  3. Yes, I read a thread on here about being talked out of buying a 'Pig Ugly WB' - its a shame that a forum such as this with a strong knowledge base can deteriorate into insults being hurled at strangers but then I guess thats the internet for you. But thats just 'My Humble Opinion'. This phrase appears to be a get out clause for anyone to be offensive. Yes it is a discussion forum however I do not see the benefit of slinging insults around. Carbunkle, Pig Ugly and orrible to name a few.
  4. You state that you are not normally that critical - sadly all I have read from you are very critical comments. If you had anything valid to say it has unfortunately been lost because your comments have been so offensive. It is a standard Liverpool Boats 57' WB and yes, we are planning to add portholes to either side. The project is not yet finished. We thought (possibly foolishly) that it might be of use to some or of interest to others to share what we were doing as we were doing it. The space gained is far from minimal and it is money well spent, but thats just IMO. Yes, the dog is wearing a pair of pink flowery knickers. It was better than mopping up the blood. Thanks for your observation.
  5. Thank you Julynian but I (We) did not ask for your opinion yet you have given it several times. Whilst I do not feel the need to justify our decision I do want to reply to your comments, as well as comments left by others. We've gained around 15% extra space to be used on a permanent basis. This is home to a family who enjoy living on board but need more space - its part of an on going refit. We realised that over the 8 years of living on board we rarely used the bow space. We have a reasonable stern deck area as well as the roof for relaxing and getting some fresh air and lots of windows for light. The work is of course not finished. Yet to be added are the rails, headlamp, horn and further vents as well as more painting to match the rest of the boat and decals. You are correct to say that it is our boat and it is our decision. The materials and labour were far less than a price of a standard cratch board and cover. I had no luck getting a cratch board and cover made for our boat due to our location hence why we changed tack.
  6. Yes, we have Stern doors, side doors and houdini hatch
  7. My daughters growling up on our boat and has a small cabin with a cabin bed which we have built ourselves. We always used a long length of wood as a guard but more recently bought a guard from ikea (£15?) which has worked a treat. Good luck!
  8. http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?app=gallery&module=user&user=5928&do=view_album&album=830 This link will hopefully take you to the work that has now nearing completion on the boat
  9. I've used Funky Monkey twice now. First was a bright red colour and this faded fairly quickly which was disappointing however the overall integrity of the vinyl was still good. Second time round I've used black and they seem to be doing better. I was really happy with the price, service and delivery again hence I used them again and would recommend. Really quick and easy to apply.
  10. ok thanks for that - it would have been good if you had said that and asked for more details before stating £1900
  11. my favourite bit of kit (s): My stove (best thing ever to be installed damn sight more reliable than my stupid eberspacher rubbish) My petzl (generally used trying to fix stupid eberspacher rubbish every winter until a decision was made regarding its life span) My whale gulpers (for pumping out bilge) My espresso machine and grinder (coffee not angle) :-) So many things I would like to add to this list when I have the money to buy them
  12. Heres a few of our boat Keep It SImple and the dog got in there too, Porter. /Users/Chloe Langan/Desktop/P1240814.JPG /Users/Chloe Langan/Desktop/P1240812.JPG P1240814.JPG humph
