  1. steelaway, nice boat!! see the pic you on the fore deck, a nice caption might read Yonder, yonder be the treasure Me Lad Argggggggggggg
  2. good excellent and I am not touting my wares, but then I see such puerile people here, , still one does live in hope what have you EVER done or built? zilch I suppose
  3. Dunno if it may help, but i do all my gas and diesel in ss, it is far cheaper than copper tube, where a tube passes through a B/H you can weld in a ss scket or nipple, if you can weld that is, you can use flares, which will save a packet over compression type fittings, although in say Qld ss is not even past the gas regs, although the ss tube may have a burst of many times that of copper Probably conforms in UK, also it runs nicer, keeps straight, Tube benders for 3/8 and 1/2 are cheap Someone said pipe, well tube is always measured on O.D pipe on nominal bore i spose you can run steel pipe if you want, galvanised comes from 1/4( which actaully is about 13mm or 1/2 OD to 6 inch, and is used on all gas lines ashore good luck
  4. listen pal, I would never buy a cert, and the rules are very complex, I want to get it RIGHT !! RIGHT Having built many class A yachts is very different, because they had no lower decks, and had quick drain cockpits so grow up, or assist if can or take a look my gallery, do you see anything like a poor job? peopel like you need go get a life

    stuarts new boat

I was a yachty, now I have designed my own canal/river. coastal she is 14.6x3.8x1 16 tonnes, alloy with glass foam glass houses two pics one on the boat I based lady h on which was steel and the second lady h, which is due to build soon i am by profession a yachtbuilder in metal with 35 years hands on:)
  7. It intrigues and amuses us in the reat of the world why UK, has never taken allloy on board I spent 40 years as a boat builder, sailed the oceans and have a long exp of all mediums Having built in steel, I changedto aluminium, It has so many pluses, hugely strong light, very very fast to build and yes I am going to say it, cheaper than steel The base metal is 3 times the price of steel,l but it goes 3 times as far there is no need to paint in or out, although I like a painted bilge and above the deck, like houses etc Fuel tanks , no paint, water, paint \Every time you drill a hole, you do not get a pile of rusty drillings, or grindings Most of the worlds new builds in superyachts are alloy I fully expect a chorus of disapproval here, but I tell you, think on it:)) As for grp, no, in the rivers, no in the canals IF you are shorthanded With alloy you have beltings inlaid with ss flat bar, as should steel boats, although I see very few steelies with ss rub rails beltings or caprails I was recently on the Danube, a fast river with huge commercial locks, metal would be a must, if shorthanded as would be non ferrous rub rails where you can competely do away with fenders And please although I dont mind critique, it is what makes the world a better place, I would like critique from those with hands on personal experience to comment, not those who "heard this from the pub" smiles to all you will see in in my pics what can be achieved in metal, and certainly not in glass Stu
  8. thanks R ob, I understand which body always have, just posted the link to the MCA case anyone wanted it. I have been pointed to the correct standards, will build IN the Eu, not sure who will use as certifiers, probably the Dutch although one can BUY any certificate in Turkey, , joking aside, thats a fact
  9. yes Chris know most of that , but I,m at mo in Australia, i think I will just have to shell out for this came from my mate in Spain, he is a pro ship arctitect, mind you if I buy YOU a real pint of, say JW scotch, maybe you can swipe a copy:)) It's the downflooding height. If you have a quick draining cockpit you can consider it as the distance from the WL to the gunwhale. The cockpit sole height over WL has to be determined in accordance with definition of quick draining cockpit as per ISO 11812 The downflooding height can be reduced by using the Annex A of ISO 12217-1 Related with stability, freeboard, buoyancy and watertightness requirements, I recommend you to buy and study at least both mentioned ISO norms, as well as ISO 12216, ISO 9093 (1 & 2) and ISO 15083, as you need to know them in deep.
  10. thanlks, yes the boat is a line I want to build and market, i have been a pro builder all my life, in alloy sailing yachts I can to those calcs in hydromax, maxsurf, but , times are tuff, I dont want to keep spending on each set standards This is a private site, so I wont plug my design in here, but will be happy share building knowl;edge and anything else. the boat is really for the rivers of Eu, tankage for 8,000km at4.5 knots, with a strong JD engine for the fast rivers like the rhine , danube rhone preciate your help stu

  12. um er I would like post pic but how does one dowhit?
  13. I found the limits for inland water ways UK, Very clear for waters a b c d but for ce cert cat c, I need to know the min wl to weather deck height(freeboard) that does not mean wl to downflooding(lowest opening) wl length is 13.4 m any help would be appreciated Nearly ready to start the first, see my gallery for latest pic happy NY all
  14. if you look at my pages i saw a boat built in 56, good as new I would expect my alloy designs to last 500 years, andI joke not, if you respect the material, and dont mix your metals I once dived on a sunk Catalina flying boat, sunk in 46, at 200 feet, , no corrosion at all, feel free email I am looking for agents for my boats in Eu and I give 10 years warranty
  15. i am not here to get (points) try posting on www.boatdesign.net, 1000,s members say something like HI I am new here, and watch the welcome I have much more to offer than anyone can ever offer me . aged 62 sailing since 13, build pro since 78 but I do appreciate common courtesy
