  1. all I can offer is make as many preps u can make including scaffold poles to stop u floating over the bank edge and also guiding u back down when it drops off. Make sure lines are secure and on a strong anchor point and are sprung
  2. sounds ideal... however two questions any idea of mooring fees and also how much water underneath as I draw 3ft
  3. I am looking for an alternative mooring for a 70ft narrowboat. preferably within an hours drive of Oxford. Am on the River Thames and fancy a change and something a little cheaper
  4. I worked it out 160 litres should last nearer to 30 days
  5. Going to be an expensive winter then
  6. I might need said coat if I turn it off at night
  7. So turning it off during the day is the only way to reduce the amount of diesel I use.
  8. I have a standard old dutch OD4 kabola. I leave it on as low as I can all day. I went through 160 litres in 20 days. Am I doing something wrong
  9. Mike you can only work out the speed of the water, depending on where you are. The speed of the water is faster on the outside of a corner than then inside. The Strong Stream Boards are put out depending on the amount of weir tackle pulled at the weir. On average with most weirs on the Thames the Strong Stream Conditions come out when approx 50% total weir tackle is pulled. You can use the volumetric flow rate found on the webiste to calaculate an average speed. The other consideration are you insuranced for Strong Stream Conditions, also don't want to stand up in coroners court and try and explain what happened,to many close calls( Pics of boat stuck on weir on the Nene).
  10. Can you get 45 degree fittings for a Kabola stove
  11. Any particular reason for the old dutch, what Kw would u suggest too, looking at 4kw
  12. I can't decide between a Old Dutch or a Reflex is their a diffence or is just a matter of taste.
  13. Wish i could join you but have a previous engagement
  14. It is not essential that the springs cross it is more that they offer more security and also more flexibity in the rising or falling levels Also my stern rope doesnt come from the cleat opposite the bank, it comes from the one closest to the bank. How does using the opposite cleat help? It all a about pythagoras theorem and the angles involved. it is better to have a long line running off the offside cleat as it gives u more up and down movement so less to tip over

am confused with the breast ropes, bow, stern and springs should be fine
  16. My link try here. Sorry didn't mean to be snippy, however serious nicotine withdrawls, been two weeks now. Also from my experience centre lines and others not being around are the main causes of most boats either sinking or damaging themsleves hanging up.
  17. Well i was going to try and find a diagram for you... however not so sure
  18. Why don't you spring your boat properly, this should allow several inches in both directions for it to rise and fall.
  19. Does anyone know a decent Sparky near Oxford area for the Thames. As I have a few issues that are beyond me.
  20. It seems I can't get the low battery LED to go off, even if the batteries are fully charged( this was done by running the engine)which means the inverter won't kick in, is their a simple fix or is it something more complicated... I have tighted all the batteries leads and also the cabling is suitable as it has worked before..
  21. Stupid question time then, how do i check the voltage of the Victron?
  22. I have a Victron 12/3000/120.. I had a problem over the winter and my batteries got cooked, so I replaced them. I intially had a problem with it the Temp sensor so had no power for several days, but this seems to have been resolved. However now I have a low level battery alarm even though the batteries seem to be fully charged according to my battery management... Any suggestions what might be the casue..
  23. I have read the manaul, had a look inside but can't see any obvious problems or fuses to replace
