  1. Talking of warning lights. I have only a light and buzzer to warn of any thing wrong. What i would like to do is add a temp. guage. Can i fit one bought from a car spares shop and can i leave the boat sender unit in place and just `T` off the existing wire and connect to a guage

  6. Well all very interesting the replies after mine, not that i understod much of it, but my linking onto a neighbours wireless connection was not my doing. When i switched on the laptop it was already connected so i assume mine searches all the time for connections.
  7. I use an Orange office card. But at this present time i have linked on to an unsecured wireless connection from a nearby house or flat that back onto the canal. So i am not paying a bean.

  9. b]The industry cost would be covered by boaters having to pay to have their tanks cleaned out(plus VAT for Gordon again).[/b]I believe we are all used by the labour spin machine here, at some point they will no doubt "Boaters having to pay to have their tanks cleaned out" WHY! When the diesel i get from a marina becomes white and more expensive i shall just carry on filling as before. I will keep all reciepts and gladly go to court if C&E try to say i have been buying red. I really do think that C&E will know if a tank has been regularly filled with red or its just a trace from previouse red use. So much speculation about when, how much etc. The boaters i feel most sorry for are those with diesel heating, they have to keep warm and costs will go up more than others. Boaters using deisel to charge batteries will see a small increase in costs. C/C s like myself will see the biggest increase, BUT we C/C s have the choice to carry on as before or stay longer in each place thus using less fuel.
  10. I use an ordinary house type directional aeriel. All i do is point same way as local houses and then RE TUNE TV to pick up from whatever transmitter the locals are tuned to.
  11. Have stopped twice (total 6 nights) in the basin below the staircase and had no trouble. Bit of w`end noise from canalside pub opposite but not to bad. LES

  14. Putting sawdust or cat litter down below means you end up having to get a oily sticky mess out after. Try using cheap throwaway nappies. They will absorb all the water and oil and it`s easy to pull out 4/5 nappies.

  19. Is your inverter modified sine wave? LES David/Julie You take a feed off the hot/cold pipes and put valve on each and set valves to give what quantity of each you want. When machine calls for water it draws from hot/cold as you have set valves LES
  20. Actually he is going to plumb it so it will take water from the califer..... So maybe the main thing is has he got a sine wave inverter. Think from what i have read sine is a must to safeguard the electrics in machine LES
  21. Many thanks for replies. I am reading through the links and am wondering if his inverter is pure sine wave as i think this might be a factor. Have read somewhere that some machines only like pure sinewave as i have on board. Many thanks LES As i posted this noticed post on price. We got a price of £360 on Sainsbury electrical products site
  22. Hi fOLKS I have on my boat a candy washing machine (AQUA 1000T) that runs via a 3000 inverter. Now a mate has decided he wants one but he has only a 1800 inverter. The plate on the machine states it is 1300w. Does this mean the 1800 inverter will be ok. I think it will but would appreciate some advice. Cheers all. LES
  23. I use orange office card. Costs me £20 month for 65mb per month. I do a blog WWW.BOATLIFE.BLOGSPOT.COM and answer my e - mail and use internet most nights. As yet i have never gone over my 65mb. True signal can at times be a problem but on whole ok. Have been told use a 3G phone and bluetooth connection to laptop to get an almost perfect signal. Have yet to try this as card is not to bad. LES
  24. Like all appeals ie disaster funds bank name and acct no. are always given out in public appeals. If we can have these details ifor one and am sure many others would go into a bank or use internet banking to make a payment. If these details are available maybe the TV company would use the info in a follow up story giving good publicity for the appeal. LES
