  1. Could you use a hot piece of wire and push it straight through, burning hole as you went?
  2. Did you mean http://www.rivercanalrescue.co.uk/ ?
  3. Hi Richard, I'm also fitting similar lights and wondered how you ran cable to each light, I have a central trunk cable running to 4 downlights (at each corner of a square). Did you just use ducting to each light (to avoid the foam vs PvC problem) or different cable, or even just duct tape over the PVC?
  4. You have got fuel haven't you!?!
  5. Could this be a clicking from a relay to glow plugs on the engine?
  6. To quote... "Holiday Showdown" Thu, Nov 4 - 09:00:00 PM to 10:00:00 PM (60 minutes) Riverboat enthusiasts the Joneses treat the Jenkins family to a relaxing holiday on the canals of Birmingham before experiencing the delights of Butlins.
  7. Just brought one of these white led lights. 12 leds in a steel round case - surface or recess fitting. Only £9.50 from B&Q. Runs directly of 12v and supplied with cable etc. Trying this out on a 12v battery and the light is fairly strong, enough to highlight parts of the room but not for reading etc. According to the multimeter, only use 90mA current (@ 12v) as well.
  8. What is the old forum based on? I've had quite a bit of experience transferring old boards to new - give me a PM if you want and I'll see if I can help.
  9. If doing a fit out, always add a few extra "spare" cable runs down the length of the boat. Useful if you need to replace a wire or have a new gadget to wire up. Just tuck them up into the conduit/panels out the way.
  10. I'm looking to plumb in a twin coil unit as well. Due to pipe work restrictions looks like I'm going to need to use a pump for the central heating/coil from a stove. What pumps do people use - do you have to be careful about these overheating? How noisy are they?
  11. Now that would be useful! First set of taps that I have ever brought so just thought I'd check fitting instructions as well !
  12. Thanks for the help Justin. Did you use standard waste fittings (plug hole!) or something else? Suppose theres not any need for a waste water trap as the pump will suck all that out anyway.
  13. It was a quote from a fitting sheet for a "modern" mixer tap - you know the expensive strange looking ones!
  14. Am I correct in thinking that the expansion tank can go anywhere in the c/heating loop? I've got a full length cupboard planned half way down the boat and would like to put this into the top of that. Where do you get the expansion tanks from anyway ???
  15. Did you have problems with the height? I'm looking into doing exactly what you have done! I'm concerned that once the tray is positioned there will be no room for a shower screen (generally 1850mm high) and also waste tank below the tray. Even if I remove the floor and balast around the tank it still seems tight on paper!! How did you fit it? Did you run the pipework through the partition wall to the back of the shower?
  16. Like this... Size of unit : 280mmL x 180mmW x 127mmH Suitable for sink and shower waste 12V DC / 2.9A http://www.pcsboatbits.co.uk But it is £109 !!
  17. Perhaps you could find one of those timed light switch (the ones that you push in and it slowly slides out) to connect to the pump. Hit the switch on the way in and then 5 mins later the pump switches off automatically.
  18. I'm assuming that its possible to use "normal" house style taps on a narrowboat. Most require 0.5 to 1 bar pressure (about 7 to 15 psi) to operate okay. Would this work okay using a standard waterpump (around 30-40psi)?
  19. So your saying that a "normal" bilge pump would be okay as long as suitable filter and pipework/tray is fitted. What do people use for the waste trays?
  20. Whats the difference between the "proper" shower pump (normally around £70-80) and a cheap as chips bilge pump (£15-£25)?
  21. I would like to install a full size shower into the narrow boat. No problem with the floor plan but I'm concerned about the height of the enclosure. Does anyone else have one installed and where was this from? What are the height dimensions? any problems fitting a waste pump underneath it/next to it? Thanks. Stuart
  22. I'm thinking about doing just that with this stove. I've been told that I need to be careful of the pressure in the hot pipes running to rads and calorifier - but if I fit an expansion tank at the end of the system surely that will take care of that? Do I need to worry about the hot water boiling or is that almost impossible due to the size of the radiators and convection of heat etc?
  23. How does the pump out work? Obviously theres a connection from the pump to the boats holding tank.... but do they flush the tank with water and suck of the resultant sludge? or just suck it dry :-)
  24. A overnight mooring at Merry Hill can be good if you have a lot of young and lively people on board. A lot safer than loosing everyone around birmingham as well!
