  1. Whats with the anti-pram hood sentiment? Having never used one, i wouldn't know. I am torn between semi trad and cruiser and have been considering a pram hood to keep the stern dry and covered when the boat is not in use. So im curious as to what is peoples issue with them. is it just that to some they are not pleasing on the eye? imo..... Cruiser - more space for kids/dogs, but imo uncomfortable for long journeys and my tea gets cold, and diluted by rain. Semi trad - more comfortable, if gated can keep dogs in the boat, but tend to have steeper stairs which the dogs dont like Trad - not for me
  2. A stabbing that left an 8 month pregnant woman fighting for her life, 2 muggings ( I know both victims), a sexual assault and a rape that im personally aware of make it an undesirable enough area for me. (Ok to pass through and moor during the day but certainly not to stop overnight) Edit to add, Staff shop is closing this year apparently. Seems Kraft don't like giving pensioners, locals or employees access to cheap out of date chocolate anymore
  3. To clarify, i don't know of any boaters who have had problems. But incidents beyond the canal in the immediate area....i.e within a few hundred yards
  4. old thread i know.....but been catching up lol They make Cadbury Dairy milk, buttons, Wispa, creme eggs, easter eggs in Bournville Poland production is Crunchie, Curly Wurly, Fudge, Roses, Milk Tray, mini eggs and a few others. The area that can be viewed when visiting Cadbury world is a functioning Factory, but low volume, not cost effective and only kept open to keep tourists happy. There are several other areas of the main factory that produces huge volumes of the products i mention...but away from tourists eyes The Polish factory was planned 10 years before Kraft took over...and building work started 5 years before. By the time Kraft got involved 90% of production had moved from Somerdale to Poland...and it was way too late. They shouldnt have made promises about things they knew nothing about. Wouldn't stay on those visitor moorings over night personally. You might get lucky and be ok, but i wouldnt risk it...and ive heard about many incidents in the area over the years.
  5. this one? http://narrowboats.apolloduck.co.uk/boat.phtml?id=546991 nice
  6. Hi Cuthound You have a semi trad boat I believe...... how does Zeus get on climbing the stairs upto the stern? Never taken ours onto a semi trad and the steepness of the stairs concern me.
  7. Colecraft, 62ft. 20 years. The pictures / details made me think the boat was worthy of a visit and potential low offer.....had it been in good condition. The search goes on!
  8. I went looking to buy, but I won't be. Wasnt sure if I was being too cautious but Alan's comments (Thankyou!!) suggest I am not. £45k isn't giving it away either!! Many thanks also for clarification on other questions....I am learning. Would anyone mind giving feedback on the roof / chimney pictures. Is that a concern? Or normal on an older boat! ( in case I see similar on future viewings!)
  9. Hi all Hoping to get some advice on the damage in these pictures. What is the likely cause? How serious is the damage? Whats the likely cost to fix? Regarding the damage around the windows. I know most boats of a certain age (20 years in this case) you would expect to see water damage of this nature, but this looks worse than I have seen on many other boats.....but people on here have seen many more than me. So is it that bad? The water damage near the roof I doubt can be from windows, so I am thinking maybe a pipe runs behind and has leaked at some point. It does look quite bad what are others views? The bubbling/rusting by the chimney...could that be heat damage? Is it much to worry about? what is the big blue thing in the engine bay? what is the big white box in the engine bay? not seen either of these before What is the white mould caused from ( near weed hatch area in semi trad) Still learning so please be patient with me Thanks
  10. I'm still convinced this was the boat I saw in amington on 1st Aug. The woman's behaviour was quite odd too. She stared at our boat, and kept looking back at it even well after passing. Maybe the MERCIA MARINA writing on the side made her uneasy?!?! Taking into account the possible sightings/findings they appear to have stayed relatively local, moved a lot....and not hidden away too much..... That's very strange!! Veeeeery strange indeed!!
  11. That's what I did..... Thought I would phone up a few days later as hadn't heard anything, was then told it had sold to someone else who doesn't mind the webasto not working! Hey ho.....will keep looking patiently
  12. Spotted a boat with identical stern heading through amington towards fazeley at 2pm yesterday. Chap In 30's and blonde woman a bit younger. Couldn't chase after them for a closer look as had 3 kids and 2 dogs in tow. Couldn't update til now as had no connection Apologies if it was an innocent lookalike
  13. I like this thread. ......most impressed by the honesty and humility displayed!! Thought I'd share that thought
  14. Strawberries are more expensive all winter vs summer. Ice (if you buy it) is cheaper in winter than in summer. Fans are cheaper in winter and unavailable in summer. You can get a cracking deal on a Xmas tree in the summer. The croissants of cropredy are also more expensive for one week of the year! Supply and demand.....that's life!
  15. Not heard a thing from them since last Thursday......when they said they would speak to the vendor about getting a quote etc. I'll give them a call tomorrow.
  16. 5%! Trouble is does that include or exclude the dodgy boiler as they have told me that already? Ball is in their court now...waiting for them to replace or get a quote to fix and drop price accordingly. That was yesterday...not heard anything today. If someone else buys in the mean time....so be it! There are plenty more boats, maybe not today, or tomorrow....but I'm happy to wait!
  17. There is a gas stove...but do need more than the especially in the summer
  18. Well the brokers words were, (just after telling me the offer was accepted, and right before i was about to give deposit payment) were..."oh, i have been checking the paperwork and i see there is an issue with......." So maybe the seller did admit, and the broker didn't advise until the last minute....or the vendor only admitted when discussing my offer with broker. who knows
  19. i thought about that, but others have mentioned them doing a bodge job. i said if the quote for repairs is low its a non-issue.....but if its a replacement boiler.....then re-negotiation. i think thats fair?
  20. Hi Yes, i was told after my offer was accepted, and just before taking deposit details.......so i held up the deal at that point. I have told the broker that the vendor needs to get quote for repair and then we can negotiate the offer (basically quoted the above ) .......if its a costly repair. broker seems to think they won't drop any further...guess we will see tomorrow.
  21. No, don't know what's wrong with it...so as you say could be something relatively simple. Could be an honest owner flagging up a relatively minor issue....or....... Some good sensible advice here...thanks.
  22. Just a quick quote the wife got. Would that include labour?
  23. Sorry spellcheck feels moral is better than morso. It's through a broker....
  24. Good question. We like the boat.....but hearing 3k for a new boiler?!?! Before we knew this the offer was accepted below asking price......seems that we would end up therefore paying close to asking price if we need to pay for the boiler. Admittedly the price of the boat has dropped a lot before getting to the current price...... There are always other boats out there, and in no rush......but the current agreed price is good I feel.....but less so with a new boiler on top
