  1. Question I'm indending to drain down my domestic water system for a narrowboat again this winter. The calorifier is at the very back of the cabin space (under bed) and its drain cock is about the lowest point system. Problem is the drain cock is about 2cm from the floor in a tight space so I can only get a very shallow small tray under it. I have in the past after emptying the water tank spend a long time on hands and knees opening and closing the drain cock runing water in to a very small tray, emptying this into a bowl and then chucking this down the sink. It takes ages! and my knees are knackered!. Can I attach a pipe to the drain cock of the calorifier attach this to a spare domestic water pump I have and with all the boat domestic taps open pump the water staight out without risking collapasing the calorifier?
  2. Are the moorings on the River Trent outside Nottingham County Hall just up stream of Trent Bridge for visitors or are they private?
  3. What's on your mind?

  4. To report issue you need a password & account, I have neither so regret will leave to others.
  5. Thanks Mick thought I was the only one, tried route again making sure to to go near areas of "clear box" and hey presto it works . So there is a glitch, I will now try to report it!
  6. For the record I'm using the suggested version of Canal Plan and have tried the route suggested above and the same problem occurs.
  7. Every time I try to plan a route, enter start & finish places then start to enter some intermediate ports of call the screen clears just to leave the banners & menus. Is it just me or a general problem?

As of today 2nd Nov, I think a bug has resurfaced, just a load of text come up when I access the journey planner
  9. I think I remember some info on a windless designed for those of us who can't get the job done with bruit strenght alone. Is there anyone out there who knows of a windless with a reduction gearbox ie more turns less effort to get the paddles up or similar? Can they be purchased and if so from where?
  10. Thanks for replys they have clarified the situation
  11. Thinking of going through the 2 Droitwich Canals, I know the info in guides is normally OK but I'm looking to moor somewhere near junction with the Severn on the Barge canal, preferably near a bit of human habitation IE not a wilderness mooring. Anybody been through there and have got any ideas?
  12. Thanks to all who added their thoughts, think I'm a bit nearer making a choice.
  13. The 3 Cylinder Perk leaps about at low revs (not tick over), also at high revs and I am told that the unit normally has 4 engine mounts this has 6 rubber mounts. There is a small diesel leak somewhere on the feed to the injectors between the pump & the injectors themselves and this is in an impossible place to get to between the exhaust manifold and the block. The whole thing is a bit of an animal. If I thought an amount of money would fix these problems then maybe keep it, but something tells me it could be sorted then a few weeks / months later the problems with balance would return. To be honest I'm searching for any advice I can get on the matter!
  14. Short of having a independant comparison on different makes of engine, any idea of what to avoid would help. In place a Perkins D3.152 with a few problems. Looking to change, yes I could spend a fair bit to possibly sort the issues out with the Perkins but my feeling is change. Types of engine to look at Beta, Shanks (Barrus Shires, Isuzu & BMC all very dull I know, but hopfully practical. I would be looking at a new engine for a 57ft narrowboat any feelings / info on which way to go would be appreciated.
  15. Thanks for the advice all the way to the K&A and back. The answer to why not use the Lapworth North Stratford route is as they say simples I've been that way a half dozen times or more!
  16. I am cruising to Birmingham in April, plenty of locks coming from Camp Hill direction, has anyone had any experience of OVERNIGHT mooring at or near The Bond or Typhoo Basin. It would allow me to break the climb to central Birmingham?
  17. For some time we have been taking the Sky decoder box with us on our travels with a good "view" of the Astra Satatite, a sat finder and mini dish no problems. Some of us now wish to watch the Ashes in HD (at Home)so this would mean a Sky HD box (The home TV is HD ready some so problems). The question is, the TV on board is a flat screen but not HD, we connect this to the current decoder box to the TV using a scart lead. Will if we go for HD we still be able to do this and would the system still work with the HD box although obviously the pic would not be HD? Help boffins please
  18. When I purchased my Vodafone Dongle there was no time limit for usage on the 3gb of download you get, for me no music or video downloads my £15 top up lasted a who year about 100 days out and about. Don,t no if this deal is still available
  19. Biggest problem with coal on the roof is yes it gets wet, but if you are not very carefull with handling the bag gets a tear in it, the rain will then get in to the bag. This will sooner or later run out and after the contact with the coal this liquid will damage your paint work. Assume it's to do with the Suphur content within the coal making a weak Sulphuric Acid Solution.
  20. Might of guessed I'd get names wrong but you know who I mean, I believe he was working his boat to Awbridge on the Staffs & Worc when we saw him near Lower Heyford.
  21. Having been on a long trip round during the whole of October, I can fully recommend both Away 4 Service in Birmingham (PO & Diesel) and Peter(?) Hawkins with Bletchley & Argos (Diesel & Coal) who were travelling the South Oxford. Both men were extreamly friendly & helpfull. diesel was split as requested and prices reasonable
  22. Thanks for the thoughts, assumed as much i.e. shop arround!, will be looking elsewhere for insurnace next year and tie in the survey with a bottom black in a couple of years time. Seeing the state of some craft on the nextwork doubt if they have them surveyed or insured.
