  1. Your replies just shout out “jobs worth” it’s a forum people can take the advice or not, there will be no legal come back, don’t you know that? If people took your advice as gospel they would end up missing a lot of good boats, over some pointless missing RCD requirement like a dedicated anchor point.⚓️
  2. This is how sellers make money by selling a kit, usually oil filter, fuel filter, air filter. What does your Beta manual say is the recommended change hours/time scale? On my engine a Barrus Shire it says the following: engine oil & filter: 250hrs or 12 month. fuel filters: 500hrs or 12 month. air filter. Check 100hrs replace 24 month or as required. This is why I buy individual and not the Barrus service kit as don’t need the air filter as much

Once again your reply is quit ridiculous, there is a difference with giving real world common sense replies as to what’s happening on the canals at present, as to reply with the ideal perfect boating world where ever boat has a meticulous kept log book and documentation. I have no relationship with any brokers, maybe you never came in because you seem to be in the minority and have the reputation of scaremongering on the RCD/RCR subject, with non of your assumptions/predictions of RCR/RCD legal action becoming reality over the last 4 years, when lots of non compliance boats would of been sold and bought.

You’ve seemed to of changed your tone on the RCD/RCR you were saying it’s against the law to sell a boat without complying paperwork RCR/RCD and put a big emphasis on boats having the complying documents. I’ve always said that a boat less than 5 years old should have the complying paperwork and older boats can be bought without, I’ve never said there is no chance of anything going wrong and there has been 1000’s of boat sold and bought without any consequences of not having the correct paperwork and Brokers are still selling these boats, this is what I’ve said all along with others on here also, in fact a majority rather than a minority of two. I think most have a more relaxed opinion on this, unlike yourself and would not walk away from a good boat because it never had a RCD and wouldn’t think about it, never mind worry when they come to sell it. The OP who started the thread may of read all the scaremongering from yourself and the other RCR drum banger and got it into his head that every boat should have one and relayed all the winded RCR stuff on here to the broker/seller.

Once again a totally ridiculous thing to say “put your money where your mouth is” come on how can I do what you say, how CAN I be liable for any of the boats bought without a complaint RCD/RCR by my posts on hear? But you CAN inform the BMF who are supposed to be regulating/ moderating the RCR that boats are being sold by Brokers without complying paperwork, will they take any notice of you I doubt it. So there has been no law cases regarding RCR as you know, just people’s interpretation of the law and basically hear say. So why all the scaremongering on here, without any concrete proven evidence by the same people?

How many boats have been sold over the last few years without complying paperwork? I’ve sold one through a broker and bought one through a broker with absolutely no problems, but if I followed your train of thought I would of missed out on a cracking boat and would of paid for a PCA to sell the other, can you not see what goes on buying and selling boats these days? If Brokers/buyers/sellers thought the RCA/RCD was a threat to prosecution a lot fewer boats would be sold. Has it had any major impact on boat sales? Buying any boat may cause problems, you buy any boat at your own risk, but your saying it’s illegal to sell a boat without a RCD/RCR is it really? Honestly answer this question once and for all. You’ve had one case on here when the guy did a self fit over many years then tried to sell it, it had a PCA and even he said it was nonsense the stuff that was brought up. He has never been on here since. You keep saying the buying and selling of boats on the canal system is governed by the RCD/RCR complying paperwork and the seller is breaking the law and the buyer could/will have issues when they come to sell it, that may be true in your mind as the letter of the law, reality is totally different I’m afraid. A post previous mentions Solid Fuel fires on boats and no one could really verify the RCR policy, then it was said they weren’t covered by the RCR, but most narrowboats have them and they have been the cause of deaths in the past. However the RCR say’s all boats must have a dedicated fixed anchor point, most narrowboats have not got this, even new builds. It just shows the problem with the RCR and why it’s not wholly suitable for all craft🤔
  7. So it is against the law to sell a complying boat without a current RCD/RCR? Some brokers demanding a PCA, maybe they’re using this to turn away self-fitouts/unsuitable/owner attitude boats politely that they don’t want on their books, without telling the owner the truth. The RCD/RCR has been brought up many times on here and it always fizzle’s out, often with a lot of contradictions, points that are proven wrong and not really any substantial evidence that it’s law and being enforced with prosecution’s. Complying boats are being sold without paperwork and that includes private and Broker Stock boats, if someone wants to buy a boat without a RCD/RCD that’s their decision, but all the scaremongering is pointless without substantial proof to back it up.
  8. On one photo it looks like they’ve just stuck one pipe inside another and put some heat wrap around. If they can’t even put a bend in a straight pipe, I doubt they can build and bond together a decent plastic shell😂
  9. Is it just you? Quite easy to live with the space of Narrowboat and far easier and cheaper to find moorings. Typical joiner is not the same as experienced boat fitter, what’s your experience with wiring boats, fitting a gas system, heating, water systems to the required standard. Everything will have to comply. As mentioned self fitouts sell for well less than professional fit outs. Go and have a look at boats both Narrow & Widebeam, as I say it’s a buyers market and prices are falling and will be for the next 6-12 month I imagine.
  10. Save your money, time, effort and stress and forget about a self build. Just put your money in one pot £80k and buy a boat, it’s a buyers market at the minute so cash is king. Boat prices are falling and if you don’t like it after a year, you won’t loose as much money compared to the money you would loose trying to sell a self fit out boat. Why do you want a widebeam? Second hand they are not selling well, you’d be far better off buying a good quality Narrowboat.

Brokers seem to be breaking the law with impunity and ignoring the law by selling boats without the complying RCR/RCD paperwork, yes they are doing it and yes buyers are happy to buy boats without complying paperwork. Please let us know how many prosecutions for their law breaking has there been over the last couple of years.

The Op started this thread about buying a second hand 10 year old boat without any complying paperwork, I imagine by the time he gets his head around all the scaremongering, he would of hacked the broker and seller off with all RCD/RCR questions or missed the boat, as it was sold to someone not on here and not bothered about the compliance of the RCR or asking for £5K off the price for a PCA.

  14. Is it? That’s not what I’m seeing and not according to the opening post by the OP on this Thread. Which brokers are stringently enforcing it? Brokers will still take good boats that they know they can sell without a RCD/RCR from what I’ve seen. Maybe they’re using the RCR/RCD in their own favour to politely turn away boats that they feel are not suitable for brokerage or may have over demanding owners that they feel they can’t work with??

Shows how inappropriate the RCR/RCR requirements is for Narrowboats when most are fitted with them and boats have burnt and people have died through ill fitted fires, then people on here go on about a Narrowboat not complying as it hasn’t got a dedicated anchor point fitted as stipulated in the RCD/RCR.

With the flue pipe, it’s a bit of a red herring, even the article above states insulated and non insulated flues, double skinned flues has always been a recommendation and not a requirement(unless the BSS ha brought it in recently). Like a lot of things regarded as “best practice” they’re not requirements but recommendations, but most builders do it anyway to cover their backs.

It sounds like the OP has been put in a predicament with the boat going into the water without being made aware from the seller or Boat Yard that to get fully comp, it would require a hull survey to be insured by a reputable insurance company. If he had been made aware of this, all could have been done prior and he would have known if everything was sound with the boat before purchasing and also save all the hassle of paying for a crane/docking, maybe he could of split the cost of a hull survey with the seller as would of been beneficial to both parties.
  20. As mentioned your boat is very light for a 62ft, a new fitted out 62’ weighs aprox 18-21 Ton. Sounds like it either build from thinner steel or there’s very little inside so basically empty, Don’t be sucked in by the seller being a “trustworthy” guy, he was trying to sell his boat to you, if he was such a decent guy he would of told you about all the insurance implications with the boat being over 30 year old and would of got a hull survey done when it was out of the water to sweeten the sale and put the buyer at ease with the condition of the hull. It makes no difference to what you paid per foot( £572x62=£35,464) people don’t value their boats that way, they’re priced overall, a new boat can cost over £5200 per foot, but they’re not advertised or sold to the customer that way.
  21. Just looked at the pic and noticed there may not be a weed hatch, so a little more difficult to remove, rudder, prop or have eyes on in the water.

The rudder looks like it can be loosed with the 3x bolts(look new)and is not welded to the rudder shaft, you should/might be able to loosen the bolts, loosen the rudder bearing/boss and lift the shaft up from the deck, so to disassemble the rudder/shaft assembly? Obviously more difficult in the water but doable through the weed hatch or in the shallows.
  23. What are the RCR/RCD application/instillation requirements with regards to spray foam? NO!!!!😂😱😂😱 I think it’s the standard insulation on the majority, if not all new builds. So if there was a major health risk or a problem, I think every builder of new boats would be gone with the legal action brought by their customers to get it removed.
  24. Check with your insurance company to exactly what they want, also contact other insurance companies as for what age they require a hull survey. You may be able to find insurance from a company that does not require a survey for the age of the boat to insure it.
  25. Try Richard Fee, Swiftcraft Boats, 07850249449. As you’re new to this, maybe you should have had the survey done before buying the boat. A hull survey may pick up some major problems that would have been better known about before purchasing. Seeing your previous posts, I take it you bought the 62ft boat and were asking about the length and moving it, can you get it out of the water for a hull survey?
