  3. I need to confirm this with John but we may even go to two pints of ale fresco as an inducement.
  4. Thank you all for the excellent evening's banter. I think I have now met all the regular banterers in one place or another and fun is always the result. There were so many highlights and amusing incidents and several good suggestions. It was probably a good thing we weren't still sitting outside when the 60 ft boat tried to fit in the 40ft mooring before the bridge. If we had, our helpful suggestions could have been less than welcome. I am amazed how inventive boaters are in their efforts to supplement their income. Proof below that Maffi has an interesting sideline! Click to enlarge Rose I would be more careful sorting your washing in future. I am sure they weren't red at the banter! John and I have a plan to put an end to those who shout at you when you pass on tickover. We need a fearless volunteer in a bikini or wetsuit. Cheshire Rose which is it to be?

  6. Ok evening starts at lunchtime for Alan and 4 p.m. for others but maybe later if Maffi can't get there under his own steam. Got it. Uh oh - what time does Alan eat lunch?
  7. I appear to have a head too! My coin was indisputable and swmbo has agreed I should follow destiny. Bones, do we have a time organised or does evening mean anytime after 2 p.m.? I will of course be driving a car so the currently stringent limits will apply. I am looking forward to renewing my aquaintance with those that I have met before (except Baldock of course) and meeting yet more people from this august forum. Well should be a laugh anyway! Dave
  8. Oops I voted Sunday but it has been pointed out that Sunday is the day for offspring to pay homage to their male parent. I am trying to get a pass for Saturday now!

  10. I would have considered it if it had been a formal banter but at an informal one one should dress accordingly. Bazza didn't wear his heels did he? I don't remember you being in your white stiletto boots either which are of course the epitomy of formal attire in Essex (for ladies usually of course).
  11. Oh Yes! Here are the photos A group view with Bazza checking his pocket What is that in his pocket? Ah nothing unusual just his high heels
  12. The photographic evidence of how one recognises Bazza in a crowd is securely in my camera and I will download it later today along with a group photo from Saturday! My error ordering the drinks was purely due to my lack of knowledge in bovine matters and had no relationship to the company I was in. In fact I must thank Cheshire Rose for being a pleasant companion for the day. Tobytimothy I bet you are glad you didn't take the boot off! there would have been no chance of getting the foot back into it - I wish you a speedy recovery. It was great to meet Maffi after reading the blog for the past couple of years and watching Milly M being built on-line. It is a great boat and Maffi is an entertaining host. I enjoyed the show and of course it wasn't until I got back to my boat that I remembered all the items I intended to buy at the show! Dave edited for bad grammar
  13. Yes we are in England - we are prepared for showers at this time of year
  14. My opinion is that if people don't overstay 'prime' moorings why shouldn't they moor up anywhere they want unless they impede passage? The boats not showing licenses may or may not be non-payers but that is not certain from a quick look. Leave the authorities to chase the genuine non-payers and be glad if we can afford to pay and be fully legal. There but the grace of god etc..
  15. try this link: http://www.canals.com/webcams.htm The Panama canal cams are impressive!
  16. Moley there are all sorts as is evidenced by the posts on here. The same is true of those who have 'ownership'. As with the rest of life you choose who to be friendly with and those you meet and forget. I consider those I met at the banter on the Shroppie as friends if I meet them again - even you and Baldock! The horrible nasty vicious trick you played on me could have put off people but it matched my sense of humour. It takes all sorts! We also had timeshare and met all sorts of people. It worked for us for many years and we sold our Sunterra points this year. Are you aware that you can go for the day and enjoy the facilities anytime? Dave
  17. No I just wish I had one for those embarrasing moments with bywashes.
  18. This may help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Union_Canal Wasn't 1948 when the Railways were Nationalised too?

  20. Ah but do you need it? Ducks!
  21. Surely this depends if the position benefits from having someone with rigid thinking? Branson seems to have done ok and he was not burdened with a steryotypical beginning. He lived on a boat - that seems to have aided his ability to think 'out of the box'.

  23. The hi-tech (to me anyway) way of doing it would be to use a projector and a laptop to project the image. Needs to be done in the shade or at night but you can easily scale or modify the image that way. The modern equivalent of a camera obscurer without the need to put your boat upside down! Dave
