For many years I have enjoyed Oil Lamps on my Canal Boats , both the Heavy Brass Gimbal Wall Mounted Type as well as a couple of Traditional Table Lamps scattered throughout the Boat , I think them almost Therapeutic especially in the Winter in the middle of nowhere with some Coffee on the Stove . I have been using Bartoline Lamp Oil in 1 litre Bottles which I was originally sourcing from Uxbridge Chandlery at £2.20 a Bottle , I would often stock up when passing or even jump in the car for an occasional weekend visit should my supply run low . The problem I have recently faced is one of supply with none being available on my last two visits , this has caused me to shop around and I have been stunned with the prices being asked for this stuff , anything from £2.20 at Uxbridge to £9.00 at a Hardware shop in Tring , all for the identical Product by the same Manufacturer , in fact it seems that sellers are now speculating in this Product as if it were some Precious Metal , the pricing can be Breathtaking . In the end I sourced some from an Internet Supplier and because I bought in bulk it worked out cheaper than even Uxbridge when you factored in my Travel Costs. Does anyone have similar experience or thoughts to offer .

What I and I suspect most Boaters are interested in is that if this rebranding leads to any Change in Direction , has anyone read any IWA comment on this makeover ? I have always found it hard to see the attraction of the Canals for the average Man and Woman in the street , yes they appreciate having them there for a walk or an hour spent fishing , they aren't keen however in opening their Wallet for their upkeep and thus far CRT haven't persuaded them to do so in significant number . Will a rebrand solve this ?

What do you mean " give them room to grow " ? Is that another way of saying that you are helping them onto the Property Ladder via a 70 foot Canal Boat ? BMC engines by their very Description are Old which effectively limits you to an older Boat , I would point you in the direction of Beta Marine ( Kubota ) for your propulsion needs others no doubt will disagree

I think this is way overpriced for what it is and with a cheaply done fit out as well . The thing about 70 foot Boats is that not everyone wants one , mooring in certain areas can be an absolute nightmare and when you factor in Blacking and Licensing Costs many go for 55 foot . I had a friend recently who called in Whilton Marina to value a 2009 70 foot Orion , £42000 was their derisory offer .

They wouldn't have to David , what normally happens is that all surrounding Roads would be Permit Holders only and each House Occupant would be asked to apply for a Permit which they would have to display , any vehicle not displaying would be deemed to be illegally Parked . It is very easily enforceable . The Moorer can of course keep a vehicle , he just won't be furnished with a Permit to park it and this will be highlighted in his Agreement
