  1. I wonder whether the above pictured pontoon at Dunham survived the winter floods.
  2. They have raised fees for all Some more than others
  3. Its not for the boater to spot whether other boats are licensed or not. C&RT say they don't want boaters to act as spotters as they have rangers who perform that task.
  4. Really the first step would be to draw off more water to see if the problem persists.
  5. That's a good price. For me this was the third BSS on the same boat by this surveyor. Will you attend during the exam ? I prefer not to be present and have never attended a BSS exam. I used to do house surveys and always thought the presence of the owner a distraction.
  6. A brief update The BSS exam was completed today. No changes relevant to the BSS have bee made to the boat since last time. The (almost) 4 years since the previous BSS test has gone very fast. The fee is £220 which is a bit more than I had anticipated but nothing unusual in that. At least it has passed with no expense on modifications or upgrades and with no comments.
  7. Maybe there should be an online system for boaters to alert C&RT to maintenence that is required. Clearly C&RT can't be expected to inspect and test every lock and every element of its infrastructure in detail.
  8. The sightings button produces a list of any sightings. It is possible there are none. Its up to you to plot the sighting positions if you wish.
  9. I think you must be almost there Click on ''My Boats'' on your main login page On the next page on your boat details is the option to click on ''sightings''
  10. Seems like a pointless regulation . While a wood burner may not be fitted in a new build home there is law against fitting a wood burner in an existing home.
  11. Live aboard and CC are not necessarily the same thing.
  12. Was the matter reported to C&RT and/or the water authority and if so what was the problem resolved?

  14. The BSS does not require a boat to look like it is in good condition.
  15. Yes you are correct - there it is
  16. It was not so many years ago that it was all done on paper. As you say the surveyor impressed a stamp into the paper to authenticate the certificate. I do print up and keep the paper copy on the boat but there is no need for it really. Insurers who cover lumpy water as well as inland waters don't seem to be concerned at all about the BSS. I have never seen it mentioned by any insurer and I always read the insurance documents.
  17. I did get a pdf certificate by email from the surveyor (in 2020). I received my BSS reminder by email from C&RT 3 months prior to the expiry date. Its not a new thing.
  18. Strictly speaking ...........C&RT are part owners of the BSS together with the EA.

  21. Do some people think a well kept / nicely presented boat is something that only novices do?
  22. I agree that must be the case . As an example C&RT know my BSS expires in mid May but in March they sold me a license for 6 months that started on 1st April. No problem (Presently awaiting a date from the BSS surveyor)
  23. Speculation. The new licensing regime has only been in place a week. Don''t see why taking a mooring of any sort should be prohibited.
  24. A CC'er can take as many short term paid for moorings as they like. A 'HM'er ''is required to have a long term mooring agreement that is in place and available throughout the period that a license is held.
