Come on Matt, you've got lots to hide. Starting with the amount you drink at boat shows, and finishing with the fact that you associate with scousers.

Sailaway or Self fitted Sailaway
Liverpool Boat Co Ltd replied to anthony's topic in General Boating
Zinc phospate gives an excellent anti-corrosive base, for our other paints (from the International Range) to be applied over. With regards to the blacking, this is 2 coats on Intertuf 16. With regards to the steel it just ensures that the quality of the steel is correct and within the stated tolerances. -
Sailaway or Self fitted Sailaway
Liverpool Boat Co Ltd replied to anthony's topic in General Boating
We have recently changed our painting methods, and we now spray all the hulls inside and out with Zinc Phosphate. Due to the amount of steel we purchase, we are also able to deal direct with Corus for most of our steel requirements, and for what they can't supply we deal with other major suppliers (BSEN1025a, equivalent to the old 43A standard). -
How to get a car onto a boat?
Liverpool Boat Co Ltd replied to Gary Peacock's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance

Which engine for my new boat?
Liverpool Boat Co Ltd replied to -Jack-'s topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
We use Isuzu in all the boats we build, with the 42hp being the standard engine for your size of boat. The 3 main reasons being:- price, reliabilty and back-up (They don't often go wrong, but if they do the dealer network is very good and very quick at sorting problems). If Hedley from HM Plant reads this, he can buy me a drink at the IWA Festival. -
Hello Carlt, LBC is fine. NO, It's the one request we always say no to. We are proud of our Company and the boats it builds.

Who built that boat?
Liverpool Boat Co Ltd replied to Gary Peacock's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
Hello Gary, we are always getting ex-staff setting up on their own and lasting for a year or two. But they can't be bothered to do something original and end up trying to sell a boat the same as ours. We now refer to them as TRIBUTE BOATS. -
Shows how busy we are, i've only just got around to reading this post. With the number of boats we have out on the water you are always going to find people with good and bad things to say about us, but we do a lot of repeat business and also recommendations. This is shown by the fact that a lot of builders who only sell a couple of boats a year, have to take out 2 page adverts in the magazines (we do a half page), spend money on fancy web-sites (i do our website), send 3 boats and a dozen staff to every show (we sent 2 people and 1 boat to crick), send you out an externally produced colour brochure (we print ours in the office), BUT we still manage to sell 340 boats a year. So we must be doing something right. Maybe its because we don't have to pass on all the marketing costs? It's surprising how many customers who come and actually buy boats off us, say they only made the appointment to come and see us because when they went to other builders, the builders spent all the time slagging us off and not telling them about their own boats. We have also had a number of well known boat fitters asking for our hulls, but without the distinctive scroll on the hulls. So snobery is alive and well on some canals. All i would ask any customer is to come and see us and make your own mind up. We are not the builder for everyone, but who is? Well that my rant for 2007. Time to get back to the business of building boats.

I know i said previously that we were not for sale, but if any members of the Dubai Governemnt are members of this site and still want to be involved with a Liverpool Company and are not doing anything with the £430 million they were ready to spend, give me a call.

Hello John, thanks for replying to this before i became aware of this thread. If people have any queries about Liverpool Boats (or a well known Northwest Builder) just give me a call, or come and see me at the NEC. To bring everyone up-to-date with what we are doing, we currently opperate from 6 sites. 5 of these are the other side of the city centre from where we have the offices and one of the steel fabrication yards. So we have bought another factory with office facilities to replace this isoated factory. This now means that all sites are now in the same area. Terry Woods Financial Manager Liverpool Boat Co Ltd

Hello Stuart, boat is looking really good. Sorry I have only just found your forum. Thanks to Chris for answering the engine query on our behalf. With regards to John's comments "I don't know the percentages but Liverpool Boats don't fit engines as a matter of course, they build shells, that's what they are good at" I would point out that in the last month we have fitted 19 Isuzu engines in our boats. These are all done by our inhouse engineers, and anyone is welcome to speak to Isuzu and ask them how many problems they get from engines we have fitted. It would be interesting if somebody could come back to me with the name of a builder who "does fit engines as a matter of course" who has fitted more than this in the last month. Look forward to following the completion of your boat

Wide Beam Fit Out Advice For Newbie
Liverpool Boat Co Ltd replied to alaskanuk's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
SORRY IN ADVANCE IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE AN ADVERT. We have found that lots of people want to fit out their own boats but don't have ALL the skills neccessary, and we have seen a big increase in Sailaway Lined boats being ordered with extra work (eg, full electrics or plumbing or heating etc). So much that we now supply boats with just the kitchen and/or bathroom fitted, so that people can stay on or use the boat whilst they finish it off themselves. -
On our fully fit boats, we normally fit a Fire Blanket in addition to the 3 extinguishers. This means that should you suffer a small kitchen fire you can use the blanket- causing a lot less mess and damage than an extinguisher.

I always recommend that the shows (NEC-Feb, Crick-May, and IWA-August are the ones we are attending in 2006) are well worth a visit. In addition to getting to talk to a lot of builders in one place you will also get to meet a lot of owners. Whenever a potential customer stops in the boat to ask us some questions, there always seems to be a previous customer coming through who is more than happy to stop and discuss their experience of Liverpool Boats.

We are finding more and more people are enquiring about the steel which will be used in the building of their boat. Because of this we are adding a link from our website to our steel providers site (www.johntainton.co.uk) from whom we obtain all our Hot Rolled Dry (BS EN 10025) steel from. Of course we had had to get the permission from Taintons to do this, but with the relationship we have they were more than happy to help. I know that brochures/websites would have to be unmanageably large to give the full details of every aspect of the building of the boat, but I think when a topic is raised as often as this one is, you have to be as transparent in your dealings as possible. I think if other builders spent more time talking about the plus side of their own company and boats, and less time trying trying to lambast the competition, it would be a lot easier for people to make an informed decison over which boat to buy.
