    You can't get much of a turn on the brass nut holding the strainer on, probably the hardest part of the job.

    The large single door is best, the strainer is centrally mounted - re fitting is something of an art though!

    I missed those remarks but throughout the conversation it was full of anger and dead ends - remarkable really, as they have attacked some of the most reasonable people on here, and Tam was in a great position to assist as someone very much experienced and involved with moorings. What i took from it was the strong aense of entitlement common in a number of modern boaters.

    I assume that the OP hasn't been on the cut for long, as moorings - particularly those connected to boatyards are invariably 'grey areas'. Some are in disused arms, others have complicated, multiple owners and so on. One i pass regularly often has a boat moored on the lock landing at the top of a flight. No one seems to complain and why would they, a shame if canal users start to mimic Ambulance chasers/whiplash fantasists, scamming to get money.

    You've nailed it, given the situation there and most folks suffering financial strain it is the only fair and effective solution.
