  1. Yesterday was our first chance for a few weeks to get a day out cruising but as we reversed out of our berth we lost power. We managed to get back into the berth and discovered that the problem was a broken clip that connects the throttle linkage to the engine. Superglue failed to repair it. Does anyone know who might stock one of these pesky little things please? We will drive to anywhere local-ish or I'm hoping one could be posted to us. We are based in Nottingham and Lincs Marine Services has been suggested but they are closed today. Meanwhile precious boating days are slipping away. Yamaha f9.9a around 25yrs old I'm not very tech minded so have no idea what it's proper name is or whether it's specific to this engine or a generic part that would be more widely available
  2. We've got a tin dog he lives behind the (house) front door, he nods his head and wags his tail when we go through the door. His name is Moonshadow.
  3. We have just had ours done at 18 months but we also had the outboard serviced ready for the new season
  4. Some years ago I road tested several types of power assisted bikes for Center Parcs, I can't remember names of the best or worst but I do remember the bruises I got on the one with the power pack in the centre of the bike. I bashed my knees on it constantly as I peddled.

  15. Ah, I can understand that but couldn't see any way a skip could 'accidentally' fall into a lock
  16. How the hell would a skip get into a lock?

  23. I've just realized I joined the forum a year ago today so I really should belatedly introduce myself. I was a complete (shy) newbie and you have given me so much useful info for which I thank you all. I found the search button and have spent many hours reading up old threads as well as new. Over the year I have laughed a lot and been scared a few times both by boaty things and some of the threads I inadvertently strayed into but all in all I have learned a lot and am enjoying my boating and the virtual company on here. I have given a bit of info about myself in another thread on here today - it's nice to feel I can now give back a little to the forum instead of lurking in the shadows. So, I have a river cruiser or as I now know yogurt pot based in Nottingham. The boat (Bote?) is named after a teddy bear called Yngwie Bearsteen and we use it as often as my husband Andy's shift pattern allows, if it's too windy or we don't have time to go out on the cut we are quite happy sitting with a beer and feeding the ducks/swans/coots/moorhens and my favourite tufted ducks Ali
  24. We're in Nottingham Castle marina and love it. We do not live aboard but spend a lot of time there. Your daughter will love Nottingham, it's got 3 uni's and the nightlife is a teenagers dream. There are plenty of more sophisticated bars and restaurants too. We have found plenty of places to boat to from there but the downside is that you do have to spend an hour either way on the canal before you reach the Trent. We often boat up to Beeston and back and enjoy the tranquil scenery floating by, the other way through Nottingham is less picturesque but you can moor up almost in the city centre, 2 mins walk from the train station 5 mins to the castle or shopping centre. It's 15 mins walk down towpath from marina into city Newark is in easy reach for a weekend trip
  25. I have a fur handle on mine so it's not cold to the touch in winter
