  1. £52 for 4X135AH today. They didn't weigh them apart from a slip of a girl helping me lift them out of the car. Maybe she thought I was struggling (Yep) Had to take em to a dealer nowhere near a canal, in Somerset. Devizes seems to be useless.
  2. Carrying on from your post, I'll share how computer fans have been utilised on my boat. My galley has 2 mushroom vents above it, one in the centre and one to the side, pretty much above the hob. That one has a comp fan in the roof void (such as it is) directing the flow from the galley out thro the mushroom. It was there when I bought the boat, and connected to one of the lighting units near the cooker. I was amazed a how much grease and grunge had accumulated around the fan in the roof void, so I modified the outflow with a plastic "Big Soup" pot with the bottom cut off. This now directs the greasy air straight out through the mushroom. I've also put a push switch adjacent to the fan so that it doesn't have to run when the light is switched on and I'm not cooking. There's also a comp fan in loo/shower mushroom vent. Obviously when the shower curtain is closed the steam can't escape, so the. shower enclosure is connected to the main mushroom vent by a pipe-also in the roof void--adopting that "filter pump" principle ( if my schoolboy physics has been remembered correctly) so when the light is switched on and the fan runs, it also sucks the steam out of the shower enclosure. Very effectively. I found the packet of another fan, and the rated airflow is 33CFM +-10% and the rated current is 160mA (0.16 A). So you don't have to worry about excessive batty drain. These fans are ideal size for this application, and I wouldn't do without the one in the galley.
  3. There's a thread running about the K&A break ins in General Boating, if you haven't been there yet. The Suspect -Alan Campbell- was allegedly seen in Bradford on Avon last Monday, as well as reports of a number of boats broken into, tho I haven't heard of any confirmation yet. Hope it's not Vox Gillie!! C
  4. Re: Alan Campbell. Sought by Police. Pic now in Gloucestershire Echo http://www.thisisgloucestershire.co.uk/Detectives-appeal-Allan-Campbell-39-canal-boat/story-18837396 www.thisisgloucestershire.co.uk Posted on K&A Canal Boaters Soc. site "Folks - I was sure I saw this man in Bradford on Avon on Monday, and sure enough a spate of boat break-ins have just been reported there." Can anyone confirm? C
  5. Link relating to man wanted for boat break ins http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/10383613.Man_sought_following_canal_thefts/?ref=fbsend&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  6. I am passing on this information in the hope that boaters on here who are on the K&A are made aware of what's happening in their area. I don't have to. I'm on the K&A and in touch with a group of live aboard boaters who need this information. They are without doubt collectively watching each others backs, and I suspect most of them have all of their worldly wealth tied up on and with their boats. Yes. Identifying "possible" suspects, may not be ethical, but so what. It could be you me, or my neighbour, and spreading the word alerts people to be more vigilant. Any unusual activity is questioned, and as for the offenders, they would doubtless con you into believing that they were innocent. I do have considerable experience in that field. So, interesting though your ideas may be, why not read back on this thread (all 9 pages of it) and then keep to the point of it by giving valid information. No offence intended
  7. Boat broken into at Bradford on Avon last Thursday. had lock smashed off and steel doors forced. A dingy called Silver Fox, with 3 aboard, allegedly fishing at night but disappears during the day, is suspect for other breaks. Has been seen travelling one way and then returning with something covered with a tarpaulin Also at Great Bedwyn, boats and car broken into on Thursday last ( not sure where Guyers Lock is and whether this is the same incident) From the "other" forum
  8. Follow this link for photo and further descriptions of offenders http://kanda.boatingcommunity.org.uk/wordpress/boat-burglaries-have-you-seen-this-man/
  9. yep. Facebook group. Kennet and Avon Canal Boaters Society.
  10. From another forum We had mounted police on the towpath in Bathampton today. They're looking for a 40 year old man, dyed blonde hair, glasses. One officer showed us a photo, unfortunately wouldn't let me take a sneaky copy (I did try). He's apparently homeless, travels extensively on a ladies' bicycle. The horses were popular with the kids coming out of school, good PR all round
  11. This was posted on another forum 14 hours ago: Ive heard on the towpath telegraph that there were more boat break ins at Bathampton over the weekend. I was told a boat on the permit moorings and one moored outside the George :-( Can anyone confirm?
  12. Passed on from another forum Ok update, last night at avoncliff two of our hireboats were broken into and loads of they're belongings stolen. They smashed the locks at the back to get in!.And, seen at Bradford on Avon a couple of days ago at the wharf car park, a red Ford Mondeo 2500 5door hatchback car, number available , containing 2 men and a woman who are known to be shoplifters in Bristol. Police have been informed
  13. I'm passing this on "Ok, all I can gleam is that it was******boat which was broken into when up at Wootton Rivers/ Bedwyn end of town and then broken into again at Wilcot the weekend just gone, can't find out if anything/ what was stolen. Wilcot is a fairly populated area with lots of dog walkers, boat movement so bit surprising that it happened there." C
  14. This thread/topic is supposed to be about the breaking in of boats on the K&A canal. There are a few contributors, myself included, who are moored on the K&A who would welcome any up to date information, and to be able to find it without having to scroll through pages of discussion about the morals of the offenders, or what to do with them. I mistakenly cross posted on page one and that thread was merged with this one. I'm beginning to wish that I hadn't bothered. Should I start another thread and leave this one to those who have nothing else to do (looking at their post count) than argue the toss with another of their mates, or would you like tokeep this discussion relevant to the subject.
