  1. The volt drop works on the 15m, not both ways, but if you all want to do 30 meters then thats fine as you are just doubling the run and adding a safety factor !
  2. From your data Current = 6 Amps Length = 15m Looking at my tri rated tables (other cable may be slightly different) 4mm2 is 5.7mV/A/m So VD (Volt Drop) for 4mm2 cable = ( 5.7 x 6 x 15 ) / 1000 = 0.513 V Taking a 12V supply that is 4.25% ((VD x 100 / 12)) 6mm2 = 3.3mV/A/m So Volt Drop for 6mm2 cable = ( 3.3 x 6 x 15 ) / 1000 = 0.297 V Taking a 12V supply that is 2.48% 10mm2 = 2.2mV/A/m So Volt Drop for 10mm2 cable = ( 2.2 x 6 x 15 ) / 1000 = 0.198 V Taking a 12V supply that is 1.65%
  3. I missed all boats moored and cruising Didnt go far though
  4. Started out today, wind was really high, was like trying to canoe sideways ! And went round a couple of rather tight bends where the canal was narrow and low and behold 4 or 5 boats moored on the towpath on the bend (Not holiday boats either), was pretty difficult getting round in the wind, perhaps they don't read this or know the untold rules..... Common sense and all that
  5. Remember to work out the circuits overcurrent protective device settings (OCPD) make sure you take into account relevant factors, e.g a 2.5 ring final circuit (2 x 2.5mm2) in a house may have to be downrated to 25 or 20 amps due to various de-ratings like bunching, thermal constraints etc. These are all in the tables along with the formulas in BS7671, although not sure if these need to be complied with on a boat (although it would be best practice)
  6. And check out canal route planner Ideal to see how far or not you will get and how many hours a day cruising you need http://canalplan.org.uk/cgi-bin/canal.cgi

  12. Im leaving Napton around 12ish saturday.....
  13. Thanks for all the advice, one question as it school holidays will all the canals be busy or would say the birmingham ring be less busy than going down to oxford from napton ? Also can you moor up anywhere on the canal for the night or do you need to pick a special place - 24/48 hr mooring etc ?
