  1. BSS Guide requires cylinders to be secured against excessive movement (e.g. to prevent strain on the hoses), it does not require them to be clamped. How would you propose to remove "clamped" cylinders in an emergency. When I had a narrowboat the cylinders were restrained by straps that allowed sufficient movement to remove the cylinders .............. checking took no more than a minute for 2 bottles. How often are you going to need to check the contents of the cylinders once you have got into a regular pattern of use? Of course you are welcome to make it as complicated and difficult as you like, but making it impractical is self-defeating.

  3. However research and tests following 9/11 suggests that the fires in the Twin Towers were incredibly intense because the airliners (predominantly constructed of aluminium) involved burnt like magnesium, with burning molten aluminium dribbling from one floor down to the next.

  6. well there are several much more direct and simple ways of checking how much gas is left. Rocking the cylinder is the simplest. You soon learn how an empty cylinder feels. Or even a spring balance to check the weight. Or look for the level of the condensation on the outside of the bottle in cold weather. Any BSS examiner worth his salt would be unhappy to proceed with his checks if he came across such gauges.
  7. Blimey !! The honourable ladyship's boat must be a real-life Tardis, what with its deepest recesses and hidden passages. All in a space that is presumably no larger than 50ft x 7ft. The mind boggles.

  9. so sad ...................... What is the official duration of the mourning period? When will the 2 minutes' silence be announced? I hope all narrowboats will cut their engines at the appropriate times and drift silently into the reeds. is there a shrine planned for my local area (Bristol)?
  10. 'ccording to your greenie count ratio of 68% you are one of the most popular and Athy at 3% is one of the least. Her Honourableship only comes in at 18% which is pretty poor. Even humble little me comes in at 37%. how about that then ?
  11. many a true word was spoken in jest. more than a wee bit can tank 'r' us perrappse ?
  12. perhaps electricians should be required to pass the ladygee test before they're allowed on a boat.
  13. have you not learnt that anything involving the good lady soon becomes incredibly complicated? even the title of her thread confirms the view that, in her mind, nothing ain't simple.
  14. that didn't take you long, so obviously I'm not. I feel somewhat humbled to be noticed by Her Honourable Ladyship.
  15. Having suffered "soshulmeedya-abuse" by the not so good lady when she was a mod and put me on the norty step without good reason (thank god we can now see her in her true colours), I managed to get over it and not report her to the feds. Hoist by her own petard, no less. PS - Kansas and Pitlockry (where the hell is that - it only figures in North Carolina) are well rid of her if you ask me. ................. and the good lady defected to that place for a while, but she didn't get a good hearing there either.
  16. cats are never fine. just ask my dogs who are on constant watch for the dreaded felines. PS - They're also not impressed by ornery folk who give themselves what they believe to be posh titles (that akshully just belittle the user). Given 'alf a chance they'd grab the title abuser by the wotsits and shake the hell out of her.
  17. half an hour to get at your batteries? where do you keep them? Land's End? ................... well, that is quite ridiculous - as is your alleged inabilty to use a multimeter. clearly those 43 years on the briny didn't teach you much about critical boat systems that may save your life one day ..................... yes, you are not alone as a salty sailor, but most of us don't feel the need to brag about it. Dear Honourable Ladyship - I know you have me on ignore but perhaps if you lifted some of those blocks you would realise what a pratt you appear to be.
  18. ..................... nasty ................... I often wonder where Phylis went?
  19. let it run, let it run, let it run ............................ ............................. could be a record breaker in the making.
  20. if you can't find or create a wiring diagram then no-one can be sure what the problems are and how they can be resolved. ......................... if you or a competent technical guy (doesn't need to be one of your incompetent electricians) cannot create such a document then, as was suggested earlier, rip it all out and start again .................. or at least disconnect everything, check each wire for continuity so you can identify them at each end, and then re-connect in accordance with a well-designed wiring diagram. There are plenty of books and documents out there (ask Tony Brooks) to help you design a proper wiring system.
  21. I would have blocked her ages ago but her posts are often sooo entertaining ?
