  1. I’m on about spinning 90 and welding the right hand side to the original bearer and welding a support plate to left side of box section to base plate. The mount bolts would only need to go through the box section, the box section would be all welded and supported. Obviously depends if you have the width of the box section to get a good support weld to the original bearer. Along with a welded support plate to the left of the box section to base plate to give it more rigidity?? Could be an easy fix for a decent steel fabricator/welder
  2. Maybe you could spin the added steel section through 90 degrees, weld the right side to the original bearer then add/weld a steel support plate to the left side welded to base plate?? Maybe could be an easy fix? Then again there may be someone rubbing their hands as they know they could drag it out and make a good profit, knowing the original fit is not the best.
  3. Could the issue be fixed by just welding the seam to the original bearer and a welded support from added steel section to base plate? Or are people also picking up on the way the mounts are positioned, instead of the normal position?
  4. A clean boat, well presented but that’s all, no really up to date appliances just basic stuff that you’d expect to find on a boat of that age. Priced to be sold to a Newbie, that will buy on looks and not knowledge.
  5. Looking at his boat and the location of where he intends to put it I imagine it will be not be that high, if on the square section above the fixed light. I doubt anyone would make it higher then cabin roof.
  6. I take it you have no experience of living on a boat without a permanent address then? Often becomes a pain for the relative getting mail sent to them and for them to forward it on, especially if your a fair distance away. That’s why the OP would be better off starting with a residential mooring, instead of doing CCing then getting a mooring as he says.
  7. What’s all this got to do with the OP? Nothing really. Everyone can advise the OP to use a relation, make address up, but if he wants work, credit rating, Doctor/Dentist and normality he’s best having a residential mooring and an address in his own name to start with.
  8. Will all depend on the OP’s finance’s, as I said I would get a residential mooring first and get established if they need to work before going CCing, rather then the other way around.
  9. For looks get a vintage Francis light with detachable socket fitting, so you can store inside and not get stolen. For what you said originally to look for moorings at night, get a high powered Torch, you could also use it for light when banging in your mooring pins, far easier then someone standing on the front rotating a fixed light and shouting instructions. Maybe your over thinking a simple scenario.
  10. Yes they’re expensive but not impossible to find. Most CC’ers that are shuffling along a small stretch and not really CCing would jump at the chance of having one. The fact is they can’t afford one rather then they don’t want one. Boating is not cheap anymore especially if you want a Marina mooring, job and a quality of life on the water. If you haven’t got a good monthly income or decent savings, CCing boat life can be crap.
  11. Make it swivel if you can, at least you will have the option. Mine as I say is handy for lighting the well deck, mind you I can switch between main beam and LED’s. Many don’t look at the swivel option as it’s “just” a tunnel light, make it a bit more useful.
  12. I have a tunnel light and had it made to swivel when ordered, as it also has LED’s around the inner circumference. I find it handy to light my well deck when I have friends around(not bloody often though😂)
  13. I would get an official residential mooring first, as the permanent address thing could turn out a bigger issue then you think, especially when trying to get a job or any form of credit. Better to get established first than later. Then decide if you want to Continuous Cruise. Everything is getting harder to do on the Canals, as lots of people have had the same idea as yourselves and are realising it’s not as plane sailing as they thought. You want an easy transition into “living the dream” not a nightmare.
  14. Not very up North though😂
  15. @Naartjie I Have to ask as I can’t seam to find that you have mentioned it, are you a UK citizen? As you say your moving to the UK and not moving back to the UK? You may find it difficult if your plan is CCing, obviously easier if you have dedicated residential moorings if not UK citizens
  16. A better idea @Jen-in-Wellies would be a monthly photo competition thread. You can only submit one photo, all photos which are submitted will be voted on, with one monthly winner. The twelve monthly winners will go forward to be voted on for a yearly winner. All photos must be canal related. The 12 monthly winning photos could go into a Callander with proceeds supporting the Forum and a yearly selected charity. Something for the Moderators to think over👍
  17. Screen copied the salient bits?? No one is bothered
  18. What’s a wobble box? Something original, well you seam a bit of a pi$$ed up di€k. Hopefully a moderator will close the thread.
  19. Had a few cans have we🍻
  20. Get over it Martin. Hopefully your Poll thread will be seen for what it is.
  21. Martin I think most people on here know what your agenda is and what your like, please don’t think your an Angel and popular. How many days has your Poll got to run? As the sooner it’s closed the better.
