  1. South Yorkshire Boat Club based at Great Heck (DN14 OBL) are planning their annual Open Weekend Sat 7th & Sun 8th Sept 2019. Our aim is to showcase our fabulous club with over 300 members plus family and friends attending we also have visiting boat clubs, local villagers and canal and countryside lovers. It is about having family fun. We have lots of stalls with entertainment, food and drink, but we are looking for anyone who maybe interested in having a stall for the weekend for a nominal fee of £20 for the weekend. We are looking for Farmers Market type stalls, artisan food and crafts amongst other things and anything a little bit different! There is no charge for community groups or charities. Places are limited but anyone interested please contact me for more information. It will be a great weekend with hundreds of people attending. Thank you. Mandy Pickard on behalf of SYBC. 2. Hi Martyn, Yes that's her, I believe they had a disabled child which is why the door was made in the transom, they did an excellent job with the grp.
  3. Hi Naughty Cal, we bought her from Newark marina where she had been moored for a couple of years. Thanks very much for passing on the info, it's funny you have posted because I've read your blog about your adventures lol your famous. Steve
  4. Hi Old goat, Yes they are more known for river and coastal but there are 4 of us with 33s or 37s just at our boat club (South Yorkshire Boat Club) on the Aire & Calder canal so it was just to try and reach as many as possible of these great boats. sorry if it's not aloud mentioning a Facebook page but I didn't know, I will also put it on the Thames page after I google it.
  5. Hi I've got a Princess 37 but can't find a decent owner group for it so have started my own Facebook page the 'Princess 37 & 33 owners club" I would like to get a list of owners to share tips and stories about ownership of these great boats. So if your interested just search for us on Facebook
  6. cant miss Ken Bruce and Popmaster, I think it's all about common sense (which does seem to be lacking in modern times) while your in the wilds with no one around play your music sensibly, in a lock or when moored near other boaters,be considerate. we don't need laws just a bit of consideration and common sense
  7. Thanks guys especially wide beam boy, and X Allan W. I've posted on a few forums and apart from a few jokers had some good feedback and interesting views. I'll keep you updated
  8. Junior - we would keep there passport and driving licence, they would pay by credit card and a deposit would be taken. Bills - cant tell if your trying to be funny or sarcastic? ditch crawler - thanks I know it's not for everyone
  9. The idea is for the boater to take the boat out each day from the marina and return at the end of each day. There are many coves to anchor off to swim and sunbath all around Minorca. There would be either an option of half a days instruction by a RYA accredited instructor if no licence is held. The boats would be permanently in Minorca. Finally to answer Ray T All on this forum like to be on the water but some people also would like a bit of adventure to go along with this so asking the opinions of boaters on a number of forums seems like a good idea.
  10. A Spanish friend and myself are looking into setting up a boat hire business on the gorgeous isle of Minorca. We are looking at buying 3 new sports boats around 23 ft each that would be fully equipped for hire for either weekends or upto a week at a time. We have found a good marina with shore power and good facilities. I was just interested in a little market research into who would be interested and any views before we go any further into the project.
  11. Hi boaty people, Having made the big mistake of allowing my sister to use my boat (28 ft Elysian vito) while I was on holiday I've returned to find it looks like she has been ram raiding in it. The pulpit rail is severely bent at the front and looks a state, to say I'm fuming would be an understatement but unfortunately that's family for you. Can anyone recommend a company that makes new ones? As my boat is quite rare I can't see me being able to get another but if I remove this one I would hope someone could use it as a pattern for making another. Any help gratefully received thanks
  12. Hi Craftycarper The hight is to the roof of the boat, the canopy doesn't stick up any higher. Traveling with full water tank would probably help as would have staying on the boat but a lady sat in her back garden at the side of the cut said a boat had lost its canopy an hour before. Judging on the fresh scrapes in the stone work I believed her and didn't want to chance it. Thanks for the link Howardang I will check it out
  13. Hi I've used canal plan many times before for planning trips so I know it's not the most accurate thing in the world but I changed the preferences with the stats for my boat 27 ft long 9.6 wide and 8ft hight. I put in a route to Ragley boat stop and it said I could make it but when I got to idle bridge 3 ( just before the clock warehouse pub) it looked a bit tight. I stopped and decided to just pull my boat under so I could check and I'm glad I did as it wouldn't go which was a bit of a bugger. Does anyone know any websites that have the bridge hights listed that are reasonably accurate as this would be a great tool when planning?
  14. I've only heard good things about Bimble but I do agree if a fuse is needed it should be supplied with the kit
  15. It says 6mm cable on the website? The controller is a 20amp
  16. I meant a normal inline fuse holder or spade fuse holder
  17. yep now you have said that I've realised its a pos+ from both battery's not a pos/neg. I feel a right lemon now lol But I can use one of the pos+ For the battery feed. ( will a normal 12v fuse holder be ok? As the connecting cable is much thicker than normal 12v? Also what size fuse?) I will run a neg direct to the battery. Also thanks for the help 'Nicknorman'
  18. Hi I've just had a solar pannel delivered from 'Bimble Solar' and the wiring diagram isn't too clear. I've fitted the pannel part but the fitting kit that came with it contains some chunky cable for connecting to the battery. I've wired it down toward the battery but it passes the main battery switch which has really thick (as thick as my index finger) live and neg connecting to the battery. Question: could I connect the pos/neg from the pannel controller direct the pos/neg from the battery at the back of this switch or does it have to go to the battery? It doesn't seem to me it would make any difference but it's always good to get a second opinion lol Thanks

  20. Well 'Conquest' that was is now 'Endless Summer' and it was time to move her from sunny Rotherham down to our new mooring at Shrdlow. So last Tuesday with the sun shining we set off at 7.30am to Keadby. Progress was good, we were flying through the locks and many swing bridges towards our goal. I had rang Keadby and booked us in for Thursday at 1.45 pm to catch the tide. According to Canal plan route planner it was 35 miles. When we got there at 6.30pm my newly fitter clipper duet said it was 27 miles? Also the list of directions say there are 2 swing bridges after Thorne but we counted at least 6 which came as a supprise lol. But we made it by 6.30pm after a long triering day and moored at Keadby Moorings. Unfortunately I had to work Wednesday. Thursday we went and spoke to the Lock keeper and bought a chart and passed nervously onto the tidel Trent. I had read up about the Trent from many sites on the web and think sometimes it's better not to read to much as I was quite nervous. It all went well for about an hour and a half until some crap in the fuel line caused the engine to stall with a blocked filter. So there we were slowly spinning along with the tide with no power so I went to to drop anchor but luckily the narrow boat that left Keadby with us caught up and offered us a tow. We managed to buddy up side by side and make good progress. They were a nice older couple and were relieved because we had a depth gauge and they didn't so I kept calling out if we got below 3 feet. We arrived at Torksey Moorings safely and I soon managed to clear the fuel filter ready for the 6am tide. We thanked the couple for there help (sorry I lost the paper with there boat name on but it began with a And they accepted a couple of bottles of red we had on board. At 6am everyone was getting ready to go and we spoke to a narrow boat in front who had also had help as he managed to run aground and get rescued by the fire service and then towed off when the tide had risen. It seems everyone was heading to Cromwell but he was heading to Keadby the wrong way against the tide??? And he had no chart or depth gauge?? I tried to explain but he was not keen on listening. The Trent from Torksey to Cromwell was much calmer and we made good time arriving without incident at around 8.30 am. Cromwell has a great visitors mooring with a sanitary station, water,Electricity and even BBQ area so we left the boat there till Sunday (work again getting in the way) Sunday 8.30am and it's sunny again so off we go up the now not tidel Trent, past the Newark Castle and towards Nottingham. I had put in the Canal plan planner our height and draft but after all the swing bridges not mentioned I wasn't as confident. We left the Trent onto the smaller canals through central Nottingham and after about half a mile hit our first problem a low bridge, our mast stuck up around 10 inch above out cabin roof making us too high.......Bugger. Tools out mast lowered, engine off my son and I gently pulled the boat towards the bridge slowly. She went under with around 6 inches to spare although the ariels twanged around lol Each bridge we met with breath held incase it was a bit lower and we would have had to go back. Luckily we managed to get our 8ft hight through them all and at 7.30 arrived at Beeston where she can stay for a week while the outboard is serviced. It's not really been a fun trip as all the cushions are off the boat being re upholstered and we have been rushing to ge everywhere but hopefully within a couple of days we will be at Shardlow and ready for the cruising season!

  22. You can't help but love 'Tim n Pru' and there love of the canals. Ok the program wasn't strictly in order but you can't help but recognise there love of the system as well as each other. Comparing it to the lacklustre 'barging' program is like chalk and cheese.
  23. It's nice you know a bit of the history of Fairlight. My boat was also built by Appleyard Lincoln, she is an Elysian Vito. I've managed to find the original Appleyard Lincoln Brochure online and a couple of mentions on websites but other than that the history of my boat or any other Vitos remain a mystery.
  24. Talking about boat names, Fairlight? Is that a reference to the 1st emulating keyboard or am I on the wrong track compleatly? It always interests me why and where people get there boat names
