  1. John, It used to be a regular haunt of mine back in the 70's. Introduced to it by the son of Mr Coward down at the Docks, then we used to go on the Sunday nights for the folk nights that used to be held there. Probably one of the best pints of 6X in the area, and as for their cider................................ I think we were some of the "favoured" sometimes as we used to get homemade bread, cheese and pickled onions some visits, normally when it wasn't busy. Never got on with The Arms, further down thev lane though. Happy days.
  2. What, jump off at Upper Purton Bridge, run down to Auntie Kath's in The Hunt, then jump back on at Lower Purton Bridge?
  3. From the amount of rain that has fallen on us up here in the last 24 hours, the Severn will be even more up below Stouport in 2 days time!!
  4. I wonder how many other profiles MrPL has been visiting here? He visited mine at 1235 on 23/01.
  5. Ms Pepper is obviously a fan of Winston!
  6. George, not only are you patronising, you are also bloody rude! Goodbye.
  7. Earlier, the vehicular access rights to the marina were queried. I have had a look at a few resources and it appears that although the access indeed does appear to be a Bridleway, there is "allowed" access to the residents and visitors of the properties on and along the lane. Whether this was formalised when the marina was first opened however I cannot find out. Certainly the Sewerage Works and Quorn Fields Farm have access rights. Ditto the owners of land off the lane.
  8. So please explain EXACTLY how CaRT have a monopoly? I get the impression that actually you are argueing for argueings sake!
  9. 1/ Why and how? 2/ How, when CaRT don't own most of the non-towpath side? 3/ Isn't that basically what we have now?
  10. They don't even need to do that. I'm sure I've read somewhere that a very heavy chain stretched across the entrance and padlocked is legally sufficient to form a barrier.
  11. What? Are you serious? If the marina has no access to the canal (or river) it isn't a marina, it's a pond!! And if CaRT is a monopoly, how come there are other \navigation authorities, a list of which has been provided?
  12. 1/ Are there really enough licence holders in the Marina who pay £180,000 per year to CaRT? 2/ Remember that in the first year of PL paying the NAA he does not pay anything, and in the second year he only was supposed to pay 50%. Only in the third year did he have to pay the full annual amount, so that was a nice little "earner" for him. CaRT have been the biggest financial losers in this, not PL or any of his other companies.
  13. Thank you and welcome, RetiredLady for a most erudite and helpful posting. I hope you find somewhere to moor more genial.
  14. The Train Operating Companies pay Network Rail to run their trains. If you want to build a private siding then Network rail will charge you for that access. So basically the same as CaRT asking for the NAA from a Marina Owner.
  15. Those hours sound very high. Have they added an extra 0 by accident?
  16. Rich, and others, There is a new thread entitled "CART Connection Charge", could you please continue your arguement there and not here?
  17. What a surprise. Another NM diatribe against CaRT!!
  18. I see PL says on his FB page that the BBC were there an hour ago. I wonder what "story" he told them?
  19. But if you read the document linked to earlier, it doesn't assure them of 100% occupancy. It just says that is what the aim is. And as has been said already, no rental business who wants to make a profit ever works on 100%, even a 75% occupancy figure is risky. The people at fault here are totally PLM because they used a very stupid and very inaccurate business model.
  20. http://www.ratsport.com/PBSCCatalog.asp?CatID=1594482 Several down the page. And lots on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/stainless-overflow-tank
