  1. disused barn = abandoned pig farm? Used to be common knowledge the Green Man pub smelt of pigs Unless the pig farm's staying mmmmmm GRP, is the new one at Tewitfield also applying the same the same rules?
  2. not sure about that, it's less than 5 mins walk from eanham wharf to the centre of Blackburn, and all the shops / pubs etc and the moorings further east could be considered even closer to the town centre but . .If it was me heading east, I'd moor at Eanham and walk, the tow path for the next mile or so is populated by moped riders etc etc
  3. a good point, well made indeed, I've experienced some really poor boating, and some very dangerous close scrapes, at the hands of others in the last few weeks, I'd happily back some form of testing
  4. no pics . .sheesh . .I don't know . . some people. . .

  5. cycling should be allowed everywhere, but only if the cyclist's promise to push 'sullen' fishermen / women into the canal
  6. was that at Eanham Wharf Gaggle? they really pushed for more canal trade at one time. is a shame, we're not all dodgy gets up here, and blackburn is such a friendly place at heart
  7. huge car park in centre, drive up the main street towards castle, turn right where it says 'P'. ok it's pay & display but it's not hugely expensive canal is but 2 minutes walk from there
  8. hmmm I'm from Blackburn and as much as I hate to admit it . .I wouldn't moor here either I've walked the canal quite a bit and often think it's a crying shame more hasn't been done to attract boats to Blackburn. The locks appear little used, can't say I've ever seen a moving boat the whole time I've lived here. All I can say is, once you pass us by heading East, things are much better. except Burnley . . Ok, after Burnley, things get much better. My boats on the Lancaster, that's busy enough considering it's size
  9. bugger, I posted a 'whingey' review of the eating establishments along the Lancaster other day, but I'm not that whingey. i think! Squishy, PM me, I've just sorted my mooring on the Lancaster, I may have some info that may help. It might not help, but I'm happy to blather on and on and on and on in a non whingey way. I did exactly the same journey, we probably crossed paths at some point . . . speaking of the Tewitfield moorings . . rumour has it they will only allow new or very very nearly new narrow boats on there hmmmph . .
  10. save some extra time to explore Skipton itself. Very pleasant
  11. yeh, everything buccaneer said there are few places your allowed to cycle on the Lancaster. BUT . . from what I've seen, this is largely ignored, the towpath is always busy with cyclists right along the canal Not that I'd condone flouting the rules *ahem*, just passing on what I've seen
  12. here goes . .not many posts to my name, and I'll sound like a moaner ha ha thing is me & her indoors have worked in food places me 11 years, her getting on for 15 years Hand & Dagger nice welcome, food is a little bit erm . . big chain-y? Frozen? Think 2 meals for £5 kinda quality but without the money off Guy's court surprisingly good prices for what turned out to be a very nice italian-esque meal. A* effort Owd Nell's very lively, can take forever to get a drink, food as Hand & Dagger Owd Tithe Barn 4 chances to impress, failed miserably on every attempt. Flat beer, terrible service, dirty tables inside & out, cold / late food (even when quiet). Such a pretty pub in a cracking location . ..shame . . Plough Inn pick of the bunch in Galgate, nearest one to the canal, friendly staff etc. Not eaten here yet though Water Witch good place to stop for 1 drink, nice seated area out front etc. Food? No dish consisting mostly of mushrooms should cost more than £10 Glasson Arm The Mill Inn only been in once, great looking place by a lock, nice garden area but flat cider, off coleslaw, luke warm pannini's. Will try again, might have been an off day
  13. yeh I have Guide 5, Northwest & Pennines lists a few on the individual pages, but not the farmers field type ones I've seen from the towpath / friends boat had hoped to catch people at the moorings over weekend but most boats seemed to be 'out' (lucky devils)
  14. Hello all, I'm looking for contact details for non BW moorings on the Lancaster but my internet searching is proving fruitless Have noticed quite a few private / farmers type moorings between Garstang & Galgate but haven't been able to get phone numbers and / or prices etc Any help greatfully received
